I don't get it. Why would that make him less wonderful? I can't speak for
the rest of you, but I don't want a man breathing down my neck all the time.
I guess I must be more of a loner than I thought. Even my husband knows
to give me my space. So, where's the problem? Straker's lack of home life
doesn't make him any less an incredible man. But then I'm not saying being
his wife would be easy either. It would take a special kind of woman to
handle it. And I think we all agree that Mary's not it!
Yours,
Denise

I will in accord with A. Taylor because I think is very difficult
(not impossible) but sure very difficult to find a just woman for Ed
Straker.
Ed Straker can't have a regular family life. Too much engagement, too
much high special responsibility, impossibility to plan an regular
and quiet day, obligated to hold the high military Top Secret on
SHADO and for this reason obligated to be a double work man.
Probabily the first "error" is the wedding with Mary, but this is
unintentional because Ed love Mary and viceversa. But Ed, in the time
of the wedding not know that just the day after, SHADO can be a
reality.
As SHADO become reality and Ed Straker haven't choice. The old SHADO
project become important as Mary for the life of Ed Straker and now
Ed can't leave the project.
And in "A Question of Priorities" we know that SHADO become just
priority on all. I remember in the italian dubbing of the episode (I
not remember if this is the same in the original): Mary to
Ed "...what is more important of the life of your son ?!!!...". This
expression is the END, this is the summary of all the life of Mary
and Ed. And Ed not have possibility to reply as know that this is
just "A Question of Priorities".
What woman can be the exact woman for Ed Straker if she not can know
the real identity of Ed ie: Commander Ed Straker?
Just for this reason I consider Mary not stupid, but a woman loving
of a man become difficult, a special, fantastic, wonderful man yet
impossible to have for a regular tipology of life with all the
aggravating circumstances of the real work of the Comm. Ed Straker
which fight against the unknown. Don't forget that this work isn't
rare, but is absolutely only in all the world.
If some woman on the list loving Ed (and consider Mary as a not good
wife), is probabily because she know already Ed as the Commander
Straker.
