box set impressions

Christian J.
Hi All!

I've just checked the first UFO DVD and I have to second the
impressions of other reviewers regarding the picture quality - it's
impressive clear and sharp. I couldn't believe my eyes! Also the
sound quality is amazing. E.g. the episode FLIGHT PATH which I own on
video from both Polygram and Digital Entertainment had always a
terrible sound. The sound on the DVD is clear and sharp! They took a
lot of time and effort in the DVDs and it shows.

The menus are well done. I hope they will use other menus for the
second box for a change.

The Gerry Anderson commentary is very interesting. He speaks also
very kind of Ed Bishop, thought that he would become a star one day
(that info for our EBFs :-)

The deleted scenes are most interesting. First they show that UFO
should be a rather cruel series aimed to the grown-ups, not to the
children anymore. E.g. you can see Ed bleeding after the crash of the
Rolls Royce. Second there are some scenes which are shortened because
of the running time of the episode, in this case EXPOSED. Sadly of
this a scene with a laughing Dr. Jackson was cut :-( And it's rather
disappointing that there is no sound for both deleted scenes from
EXPOSED. I wish they had put in Subtitles at least. But maybe one can
read it in the screenplays? Must check this...

The Behind the scenes Gallery is impressive too. There are much
pictures I haven't seen yet (maybe Marc will know them :-) You can
find 29 Behind the Scenes pics, 18 Production Stills and 5 Deleted
Scenes pics.

All in all this IS a MUST for UFO fans! Maybe we should be glad that
UFO of all the Anderson series wasn't released first - the DVDs are a
really improvement to the SPACE: 1999 or THUNDERBIRD DVDs!

I agree, they are superb! My favourite animated menu sequence is
the big computer with loads of tape reels and flashing lights
- a bit tongue in cheek, but it really captures the spirit of
UFO.

He has said that on numerous occasions. Ed *is* a star, for crying out
loud!

Re: ribbons

Shawn Kelly
I too had that thought about the ribbons instantly but ya'all beat me
to it. I'm very impressed however with the outstanding clarity of
the image. If the whole series is of the same clarity as these
stills are then we are really in for a treat. Mine have shipped too
but UK to California is going to take a while. :-(
