I always though Christopher Walken would have been the perfect Straker in a remake.  He's got a certain intensity about him that could work.  Here's a pic of him looking very Straker-like in 'A View To A Kill'...

I could see that. But it makes me wonder if you've missed the original point of the exercise. ;)

I must confess I have always feared that the director of the long-waited movie of UFO could be Roland Emmerich. My nightmare is he doing UFO as a terrible american-all-heroic movie with all-muscle-and-big-square-chin actors a big atomic explosion at the end.

Another nightmare would be Dan Brown writing the film: the aliens at the beginning would be bad... then no, no: they are the good boys... then no, no: they are indeed the bad boys... then no, no: they actually are good... then... nobody understands a thing but for Robert Langdon.

Obviously one's nightmare is another one's dream.
