Welcome! How long have you been a fan of this series? I only
learned about it this year in the summer after I read the announcement about the passing away of Ed Bishop and Mike Billington. I was intrigued by the article and the accompanying photographs, so I rented the UFO DVDs and have been hooked on the series ever since. Who's your favorite character in the series? ~Jeanster |

Jean I am not trying to anger you but let me vent just a little. Some marriages end in divorce and the parents are still amicable towards each other. The love they shared is gone for whatever reason but they don't take it out on the children. Once a spouse marries a new spouse , the old spouse may not be welcome by the new spouse. So there is extreme turmoil whenever the ex shows up. Look at what Mary married after Ed. An older man who loves Mary but is not as handsome as Ed. Ed brings back bad memories to Mary. Remember she thought he was having an affair and he never told her differently. When I saw " A matter of Priorities" for the first time after 30 yrs i was so angry it was ridiculous. The message boards helped me dissapate my anger towards Straker. Mary should have allowed Ed in to see the boat but I bet if there had been time to put it in the script , Mary's new husband despises Ed because of his supposed affair. Be careful who you blame. Everyone had a hand
in it. What mother or father has not said a million times "LOOK both ways before you cross the street". The episode also showed what lenghts Straker would go to protect earth. People have contributed UFO ringtones to me in the past for addition to my UFO website, but I have not uploaded them because I have way more for stuff my website than time to get to it, and also I try to stick to contributions that can be appreciated with on a standard computer. But these UFO ringtones may appear on one of the ringtone sites on the web...I don't know... Marc |

Are there any ringtones that will work on a Nextel phone?

I think it was easier for the writers to have her do that than to make her three-dimensional. It's easier to dislike a paper character than one who is real. Mary comes across as the helpless, neurotic, trophy wife. It's a durn good thing Ed didn't stay "military" officially or she'd have buckled sooner. *chuckle* As it was, the writers certainly left open the question of why didn't she stop the boy from running after his dad? One feeble attempt and that was it. Any normal mom would've been yelling at him to stop and get his person back to the house, now and don't run into the road? (famous query in our house: do you want to be squished like a bug?) And why isn't second husband moving heaven and earth to get the drug for Johnny? Why is only Ed mandatory to be super human? Then, of course, there's the why does the States have this new drug when it's so frequently the rest of the world that's in the lead on releasing these things? Ok, sorry. Can of worms time and they're all connected. *snerk* anyway, no you're not the only one who questioned her lack of taking responsibility. laters dragon __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I'd always thought she allowed Johnny to run after him in the hopes that Straker would stop and be able to see the boat, but fate intervened. What were the chances of a speeding motorist in a quiet country lane like that, although they went to the trouble of having a car slow and 'bib'their horn at Straker just previously, to illustrate the danger. Getting into Mary's psyche here, by not stopping Johnny, she saw an opportunity to absolve herself of any bad feeling from both Straker and Johnny in sending him away, only done to minimise any grief for herself from Rutland. It seems to me that she holds Rutland responsible for the accident, judging by her dismissive attitude of him at the hospital, because it was her fear of upsetting him that caused her to make a poor decision in the first place. Certainly both men are too gentlemanly to point out her error in mothering skills, perhaps because they silently admit they put her in that position in the first place. Furthermore, all of them are in severe shock and quite frankly hardly in a position to make sound judgements about anything, hence Straker's appaulingly bad decision-making throughout the episode. Ultimately though, Mary holds Straker responsible for Johnny's death because he failed to get the drug there in time, by this point it's irrelevant why or how the accident happened. Imagine the opposite scenario - drug arrives and Johnny lives? Straker was on a hiding to nothing on this in trusting his own judgement. I dearly wish he'd told Alec!! I love that whole scene outside the house; it conveys so much information about the family dynamics in so short a time! Extremely well-acted by all. Sarah (UK) |
