new UFO movie potentialities

Why? What worked for audiences in 1970 wouldn't necessarily work
for audiences in 2006+ ..

And come to think of it it didn't work that well in 1970, either.
It did for me, but it wasn't exactly a huge success.

kept true to the feel. Frankly, i think UFO: TNG would be better than UFO

IF, and I do mean IF, UFO was to be done as a feature film, and updated, I
would hope that the producers would try to take the original UFO hardware
and make it more modern, technologically advanced and just as interesting as
the original had been. It isn't so much I fear for the hardware
representation - we know SFX and model-builders can do some fabulous things
(i.e. Star Wars, Trek, BG, B5, et al) these days. I feel Derek Meddings was
sort of the grandfather of alot of the model work that is being done now.

What scares me is what Dragon begged not to happen: some idiot like Owen
Wilson (or some other totally unsuitable actor) playing Straker, perish the
thought! Or the original idea of the series discomboobulated so that it
bears no connection to the original. Look at the Mission: Impossible movies
- they made Jim Phelps a BAD GUY for Christ's sakes! That in itself was
enough to make me decide I wanted none of those films - besides - Tom Cruise
operating on his own was NOT what the original MI was - it was a team
working together to take down some baddies. There is talk of an A-Team
re-make - besides the fact the only actor who is not with us is George
Peppard - who the hell could play Hannibal and make it work but him?

The only remade UFO HAS to appeal to the people who would want to see it -
the original fan base. Why bother with it at all if it isn't to be made in
the spirit of GA's 1970 series and cast with believable decent actors the
fans won't barf into their popcorn over? Since UFO is technically now 36 yrs
old, and other TV series since UFO have incorporated the idea of nasty
aliens among us (i.e. X-FIles, Earth: Final Conflict, the WOTW series, Dark
Skies, Invasion, yada yada yada) what makes UFO different from all these is
that UFO doesn't deal in conspiracies - the show is basically a chronicle of
a war - SHADO against the aliens - and the drive to chase them away, or at
least find out where they come from so they can take the battle to them.
