shado vs professionals

Baz Taylor
you may have noticed that i'm a
bigfan of the professionals, too1
is it just me, or did all the lead
actors in ufo get beaten up by
lewis collins?!
mike billington, beaten up, and
thrown into a cortina.
ed bishop, car chase, then beaten
up whilst in his car.
gabrielle drake, bodie's
girlfriend, then got hit for being
hysterical.
maybe ci5 has a thing about shado?!

He didn't get beaten up in the episode where he had the bigger role, though
("Long Shot"). But yeah, now that you mention it...

Can't you just see Straker and Cowley facing off?

Actually Straker and Cowley are quite similar characters in many
ways - both very authoritarian, both quite hard-nosed, fiercely
dedicated and loyal to their subordinates. Of course, you
wouldn't catch Straker with a bottle of Scotch in his desk.
Although he does have a dispenser in his office, come to think
of it ..

now that you mention that drinks
machine.....
maybe thats why my grandad calls
freeman 'the alkie bastard'. he
does have a drink in his hand most
of the time!
bodie and gay ellis would make a
lovely couple! (they did in close
quaters)

Has it ever struck you as strange (it has me) that a
teetotaler like Straker has a well-stocked bar in his
office ? (I could understand if it was the film studio
exec's office - to provide drinks for his VIP guests -
but not in the underground SHADO Commander's office).
Who designed SHADO's underground complex - it wasn't
Alec Freeman by any chance ? ;)

Andy

Well, we know Freeman was there and in the midst of things while the
complex was being constructed, so it's entirely possible he had a hand in
equipping Straker's office.

Especially since, Alec, as second in command, would sometimes be using
the office himself when Straker was away ....

Anyway, we know Straker drank before SHADO - he was definitely a little
tipsy after his wedding. He must have quit drinking only after SHADO
became active and he realized what kind of job he had .....
