Hi, I just wanted to let the group know I feel much more energized
now. Thank you Pam for your kind interest in my health. I'm sorry the whole UFO2 deal lost momentum. I think I'll contact Mr. Anderson myself soon and thank him for the inspiring work he's done over the years. As I recently wrote to Marc Martin, I think a live-action Captain Scarlet major motion picture should interest the money men in Hollywood. I make no apologizies for being a romantic. Also, I'm sure Ed Bishop would still look commanding on the small screen. |
Dear Stephen - hope this e-mail means you're doing well health-wise again!
While Capt Scarlett could be of interest to $ men, I think UFO has an even stronger premise and I'd more inclined to "push" that idea. I did e-mail Mr. Anderson (at his fanderson site) and the other gentleman who'd attempted the 1996 UFO reunion program. I've been telling my friends here in Canada that UFO was a "precursor" of sorts to certain aspects of the X-Files, trying to get them interested in accessing the web sites devoted to the show, and I'm hoping to get the Space Channel here in Canada as a Xmas gift from my hubby so that if they start re-running UFO I'll be all ready for it. Please don't apologize for being a "romantic"!! I feel that those who love and respect the original UFO series would cheer to see UFO resurrected, and I agree - Ed Bishop could still play Straker with a very commanding presence! I saw film captures of him from a Highlander program a couple of years ago and he still looks "the part." If William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy could play Kirk and Spock respectively in advancing age (and wisdom), I'm sure Mr. Bishop and Mr. Billington could do so. I have a personal question to ask Stephen - what is your take on UFO slash? I find it appalling, but some UFO fans seem to adore it. Any feedback? My name is Karen, and I'm new to the List, so please excuse my ignorance, but I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to fill me in what's mentioned above. Are these just dreams and hopes or a very real possibility? All I can say is I'm hoping very much indeed that the hopes and dreams WILL become a reality!!! By the way, I agree that Ed Bishop would still look commanding on the small screen!! There's nothing wrong with being a hopeless romantic. After all, it's our dreams which keep things alive in our hearts and minds and very often it's thanks to us that those dreams really do become a reality in the end!! I'm really looking forward to being able to share my enthusiasm and dedication for the show, Mr Anderson, and the cast and crew with other like minds. It sometimes feels like I've been waiting my whole life to be able to find a List like this! Thanks for having me "abaord"!! Thanks, Pam McCaughey <<<< Hi Pam, Hi Stephen, I hope you don't mind me (Karen) responding to your messages, but I found what you said to be particularly intriguing. I agree with you entirely that UFO would make a more interesting idea than Captain Scarlett, especially considering the connections that it has with X-Files etc. But it would HAVE to have the original actors playing the roles to make it work!! Captain Scarlett's success would wholly depend on choosing the correct actor to play the role, and I do think that would be practically impossible, all things considered. Perhaps it would interest everyone to know that UFO is currently being shown again here in Germany. Dubbed into German, unfortunately, but mostly uncut (for a change). It's part of their "cult TV evening", which also includes a showing of "Space 1999". I find it fascinating, and definitely a sign of the times (when people seem incapable of creating anything new and of value but are searching for really quality, unique shows from the past), to discover that the cult evening have record audiences and that both the series have acquired a whole new fan following. Definitely a sign, I think, that a new series of UFO, or even a film, would be a huge success!!! On the subject of UFO slash, may I ask you, Pam, why you find the idea appalling? I've read a lot of stories in the past, and find them fascinating. As long as they're well written, and are dealing with the love aspect of a relationship and not simply sex, then I find them an interesting and valuable addition to fandom. However, though I accept and enjoy reading such stories, I do not find any hint at all in the series that such a relationship between any of the characters coduld be possible. (In comparison to the strong hints in the original Star Trek series, and in the old 1970's cop series Starsky & Hutch.) I find the possibility of Straker and Foster being together a fascinating one, but...? I, too, would be very interested in hearing of any comeback and reactions to your comments. And to mine! Peace.....Karen |

Hi Karen - thanks for logging on! Please check out Marc's UFO site
especially - It's SUPER! Cram-packed with all kinds of goodies! It took me days and days to check out everything Marc has compiled on his site! http://ufoseries.com if you haven't yet been there! There was an attempt in 1996 to do a UFO2 series or movie, which unfortunately did not come to fruition. The series premise is, in my humble opinion, a precursor in many ways to today's X-Files and I feel the storyline, characters and ideas are very interesting. One thread of comment on this site has been how many of UFO and Star Trek's techno-gadgets have been developed in the "real world" - items such as cordless phones, Delorean autos (the gullwinged cars), video-conferencing, - UFO and Trek - communicators, hypo-sprays for medications, tricorders, etc. I've been e-mailing Mike Billington, Gerry Anderson and the fellow who first tried to put the reunion series together recently - I just found these sites myself about 3-4 weeks ago! Mike's site is available on a link through Marc's site in What's New, I think. Please make yourself at home! Pam McCaughey |
