Yes, one of my 'top ten' favourite films & we've discussed
it here on occasion - but George Sewell's character is not
particularly dark or sinister. He *is* a member of the same
criminal organisation as Carter, but we only see a minute or two
of him - he actually comes across as quite affable and jokey,
as if it's really just a job to him - there's none of Carter's
cold brutality or menace.
