I assumed it meant .. just walking around in a small circle
for a second or two before making an entrance to give the
appearance of 'walking continuity' if you see what I mean -
ie to avoid the appearance that the character had been waiting
for a cue to walk in.
I can understand why Ed felt Mike needed some help with his
acting, he did give somewhat awkward and unnatural performances
back then.
