Marc--

Thanks for sharing this. It's been so long since I saw any of Space
1999, I only have the vaguest memories of it. My favorite episode
was the one featuring the marvelous Margaret Leighton as a sort of
mystical space crone. I have happy memories as well as the one where
Peter Cushing played an alien anthropologist with whose daughter the
Martin Landau character became involved. I remember being amused by
a line in there something like: "But ... she's only a child ...
barely 130 years old!" I thought the editing was odd in a lot of
those episodes. I wonder, retrospectively, whether they might not
have been trimmed for the US airings.

It seems from what I can remember that there was an attempt on Space
1999 to have more character development than had been the case on
UFO. Ironically I found the characters on UFO much more memorable;
especially the onscreen chemistry between Straker and Foster, which
the two actors seemed to play so well. The odd thing is that from
reading interviews, it seems as if they didn't particularly like one
another, though I gather they got on fine professionally. Just my
impression ...

Incidentally, I have seen a lot of Space 1999 DVDs in the shops here,
but, as I don't own a DVD player, the temptation is easily resisted!
