We had a discussion about Mr grand Nagus over on Online Alpha. My advice,
especially if he doesn't deliver the goods (Bootleged or not) is file a
complaint with EBAY and super neg him in the feedback if this doesn't get
resolved in the next 2 weeks.

As for other Italian dealers on EBAY my best dealings have been with fellow
SHADO member [hidden email] known to us as Angelo. Always quick
shipping and good emails. I've never had a problem with him and I have had
mail trouble sending money and things to Italy in the past (This was always
a Post Office problem, not a seller problem)

Now onto Anthony's review of Identified!

I love all that stuff in Identified. For every ass shot on the episode
there had to be some real plotting and planning and camera placement. The
whole situation of them filming these....behinds is very amusing to
me. Being that Alex isn't the best looking guy on the show he seems more
of the dirty old man type. Meaning, he's kidding around but (Theres that
word again!) is never going to get anywhere. The UFO 1999 (No I don't know
if the tape is available) parody did this up as an excellent spoof and
that's all I can think of when Freeman hits on Lake in the SST.

Of course this is the sort of thing that gets people fired from their jobs
today, (Rightly so I might add) but watching it in Identified and being a
fan of the series my mind takes it as a celebration of being human and
being alive. If you buy the premise of the show these people are under
tremendous pressure to fight off the aliens (And to retain the format, the
fight always comes to a draw, we're never winning and neither are the
aliens!) and their down time hijinks have more to do with keeping from
cracking up under the pressure than it does with how we perceive the show
today. IMO btw.

The smoking on the sub and on the moon is really crazy though, because it
uses up the resources they have to keep the air clean and breathable. But
Gerry Anderson & Co were all heavy chain smokers at the time and smoking in
the 1960's and early 1970's didn't carry the social stigma that it carries
today.

My parents were heavy chain smokers and I never touched the stuff. But I
did get tons of it in my lungs secondhand until I moved out after 22 years
with them. I wouldn't be surprised if i got lung cancer myself after all
that exposure.

But your right, realistically there is no excuse and no reason for the
smoking. The Gemini and Apollo astronauts didn't smoke in space and
Century 21 knew this and either didn't care or ignored it.

>My one big "ugh" factor is the crux of the episode -- at the end, we find
>human organs in the captured alien. They must be abducting humans for our
>organs! OH MY GAWD! Well, it's fairly stupid for several reasons:

I give this one to Gerry & Co because these are aliens that can travel at
FTL speeds and have a certain level of tech. That they can do this with
our organs fits into their powers for this series.

>3) they use bullets (or what appear to be bullets) to kill humans -- aren't
>they afraid that they will ruin a perfectly good heart/liver/intestine, etc.
>with one of those bullets?

I like the idea of bullets, or whatever projectile is in their
rifles. (They can use these on the moon too! maybe it's a sort of rocket
type propellent bullet) I think it's cheaper to produce bullets than to
have some sort of beam weapon. The beam needs a big power source and the
UFO's have A LOT of power. Their fragile in other ways though. As for
ruining all the organs, there are billions of people on earth, if they
shoot a dozen to get one good donor it really doesn't interfere with the
supply.

I also thought about the PPG guns in Babylon 5. These weapons were thought
out because you couldn't have a projectile weapon on the Space Station, it
would cause hull breaches! So the PPG's (Phased Plasma Guns) fire off a
super hot bundle of plasma that must REALLY hurt when it hits you!

>Launch Interceptors!

Don't forget the coolest thing about the episode, Barry Gray's score! One
of the best theme songs of any Gerry Anderson series, in my mind right up
there with Space 1999 Year One theme and the Secret Service theme. The
variations used on this theme are also quite interesting. The Interceptors
launch music with it's Morse code like introduction, The skydiver launch
music, the reflective slow theme (Usually done on a flute) and the swift
exciting music as Ed is thrown from the Rolls Royce in the opening
scene. Without that, UFO, for me would have been a lesser show. I've
never forgotten the music, even when I had only seen one or two episodes as
a child. Space 1999 comes close but I think Barry really gave us his best
with UFO. (Again I'm deciding between two goods here)

The Zero X theme comes to mind too as a great piece.

Anthony, are you coming to NYC to see Gerry Anderson at the Virgin
Megastore? Anyone else on the list going? I'll be there, I got permission
to go ; - ) (Talk about sexism!) and would love to hook up with people
from this list and the Online Alpha list!
