Well, there's a log of Barry Gray's recording sessions
at this page:

This contains the dates & places for the various UFO
sessions. For example, THE LONG SLEEP was recorded
at Pye Studio 2 on November 11, 1970 from 2 to 6 pm,
with 8 musicians. And the UFO main theme was recorded
on October 16, 1969 at Barry Gray Studios from 9:30
am to 1:30 pm with 14 musicians.

Also, on the 4-track vs. 8-track... I checked my old
e-mails (from folks who know way more than I, but aren't
on this list), and the UFO title theme tape still exists
on a 4-track recording, so it can (and will) be
mixed into stereo for the upcoming Fanderson soundtrack
CD release.
