I use the term '007 syndrome' to refer to the situation
where the villain fails to shoot 007, despite having repeated
opportunities to do so, preferring instead to devise cruel and
inventive methods of execution from which he inevitably escapes
- a situation which occurs repeatedly in the Fleming novels,
and indeed in the films as well.
