When I first commented on this subject today I was under the
impression from your post that they were using the actual UFO theme.
Copyright theft is a pet hate of mine as you rightly point out, but
TV companies do pay royalties and obtain permission to use copyright
material, so this wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest.

However it seems that they are using a different piece of music, one
which plagiarises the UFO theme (assuming, as Marc suggests, that
Barry Gray isn't in fact given a credit). I've just listened to it,
and it clearly owes a great deal to the UFO theme. Copyright theft
and plagiarism are two different things, but I disapprove of both,
personally. Having said that - it's really the person who recorded
this new piece, who has represented someone else's work as his/her
own, who deserves to take the stick, not the Cartoon Network. It's
perhaps asking a little too much (in my opinion) to expect a TV
company to take a position on this, if they are even aware of it.
