I always thought that the light beam from a hand gun might be more expensive. It was the pilot episode, so money may have been a consideration. bslBrian Lindstrand <

I think that Robert Miall came up with the idea in the novelizations that
the missiles were "smart bombs," guaranteed to home in on the target (or at
least damage it by exploding nearby).
Thus, you only need the one. At least that's the theory.
And hey, speaking of the Ufo's weapons, how come they seem to have energy
weapons and yet in the first episode, they're using what seems to be a
machine gun?
