That was the subject of my first post to the list a few years
ago, and the consensus was that it was thought that the bright
colour would appeal more to kids.

I bought one myself, but would have much preferred a white one.
Perhaps someone in marketing at Dinky thought that the market
for it would include a lot of people unfamiliar with UFO, or
that it wouldn't really matter to the show's fans. A mistake,
I think.
