Jean I am not trying to anger you but let me vent just a little. Some marriages end in divorce and the parents are still amicable towards each other. The love they shared is gone for whatever reason but they don't take it out on the children. Once a spouse marries a new spouse , the old spouse may not be welcome by the new spouse. So there is extreme turmoil whenever the ex shows up. Look at what Mary married after Ed. An older man who loves Mary but is not as handsome as Ed. Ed brings back bad memories to Mary. Remember she thought he was having an affair and he never told her differently. When I saw " A matter of Priorities" for the first time after 30 yrs i was so angry it was ridiculous. The message boards helped me dissapate my anger towards Straker. Mary should have allowed Ed in to see the boat but I bet if there had been time to put it in the script , Mary's new husband despises Ed because of his supposed affair. Be careful who you blame. Everyone had a hand
in it. What mother or father has not said a million times "LOOK both ways before you cross the street". The episode also showed what lenghts Straker would go to protect earth.
Been the child of divorce

Maybe I'm the only one who wondered why Mary never acknowledged her
part of the blame for poor little John's tragic fatal accident.
After all,if she had allowed Ed to stay to see what little John
wanted to show him (the boat) instead of sending him away, then the
little tyke wouldn't have run out into the road like that.
Guess it was easier for her to blame Ed.
