It was surprising, but I didn't find it dissapointing.
MINDBENDER is one of my favorite episodes.

I've read that they were running low on budget, and
wanted a "low budget" episode -- one that required
no new sets to be built, and no new special effects
sequences. Just use what you've got. Sometimes
when such a decree is made, you end up with a
"flashback" episode, where they just show a lot
of scenes from previous episodes. And they did
that in MINDBENDER too (Straker seeing his life
on film), but they were much more creative about
it.
