Yes, pretty much any present-day attempt to remake UFO would be much
different than the original. So different that many people who liked
the original series probably wouldn't like the remake (and also the
reverse situation).

The new Battlestar Galactica is vastly different than the original.
One wonders why they even bothered calling it "Battlestar Galactica",
but I suppose they needed the name to get good ratings for the initial
mini-series.

Of course, since there probably would be no ratings-advantage to
calling something "UFO", someone could certainly develop a new
series that has as much (or more) in common with UFO than many
remakes. I actually like this idea more than the idea of "remaking
UFO".
