In my opinion the "new" Galactica cannot reach the magic of the old one feat. such great actors like Lorne Greene or James Colicos. I always liked Battlestar Galactica and I was very happy when I read that they'd renew the series but when I saw the MiniSeries on TV I was disappointed because of so much violence. Battlestar Galactica lost its charm! I'm sorry but this renewal is too violent for me. Let me tell you my fab sci fi-series:
1) UFO
2) Battlestar Galactica (from the 1970ies, the 1980ies version was also bullshit)
3) Space:1999

Same here. It's not a series for watching just the
occasional episode though - you do need to follow it.
In that way, it's similar to Babylon 5, which I also
loved. UFO is quite different in this respect - each
episode can be watched as a one-off.
My top 3 TV SF series of all time:
1, UFO
2, Galactica (*only* the new version)
3, Babylon 5
