UFO is still my favorite sci-fi series of all time, even though as an adult now I find it so full of bad acting and outrageous flaws. Something about the premise and storyline make it the most easy to "immerse" myself into imagining living there in an alternate life. I like the simplicity of the '70s vision of life in the '80s as well. The real world has turned out a bit dissappointing politically and space program wise.
The new BG is *addictive*. Also, every aspect of production is extremely high quality, from writing to acting to FX. It also parallels our situation today with the war and american politics. A brilliantly crafted, but subtle protest against our current leadership, while at the same time exposing both sides of the conflict.
Never seen the Babylon 5.

Same here. It's not a series for watching just the
occasional episode though - you do need to follow it.
In that way, it's similar to Babylon 5, which I also
loved. UFO is quite different in this respect - each
episode can be watched as a one-off.
My top 3 TV SF series of all time:
1, UFO
2, Galactica (*only* the new version)
3, Babylon 5
Cheers,
