Hi Harry,
I've said it a few times before, but I actually prefer most of the
earlier production episodes (although not all). I like the more
ascetic, austere, pragmatic and more typically 'Andersonesque'
approach, where the concentration is more on the craft,
technicalities. I've asked myself a few times why this would be, and I
suppose it could be that when I was young I only ever seemed to see
the earlier production episodes, and was bought up on Thunderbords and
Captain Scarlet. When I finally saw the (and in my opinion) later more
wacky episodes, it was quite a surprise. Of course, I love them all,
warts and all. I guess UFO is imprinted in my DNA by now - I know all
the episodes practically word for word, scene for scene, but never
ever get bored of it.
One thing I would say, is that on reading the scripts, some of the
episodes that suffer in presentation do so as some of the more
poignent and crucial points were left on the cutting room floor.
Reading the scripts really makes me wonder and wish at what could have
been...

I've noticed a few comments lately from folks about how they found
this or that episode a bit slow or dull or disappointing when
rewatching the series on DVD. But what ones do people like the best?
