I heard something similar from the first Batman movie, it tended to want tofly. They build them nice to look at, but hard to drive.
Years ago, tv show props went to the production lots bone yard, where they were left to rust. When studios like MGM went bankrupt, they sold off the props to collectors.

Where are the UFO cars now??Did they go to some collector or museum-or possibly even the scrap yard because they no longer needed them???Adam West also stated that the original Batmobile was hard to drive.

Mmm... I think you may have misunderstood my previous email.
Of course in reality, the prop cars (Straker's and Foster's) used very conventional petrol engines circa 1969. Ed Bishop said he could smell the exhaust leaking into the car whenever he drove it.
Also, the SHADO six-wheelers also had an 'electic' sound overdubbed, but were actually based on the Minimoke with an extra rear axle.
Originally, there were 3 'futuristic' cars custom made for Doppelganger. One was extensively damaged during production, and that is the main reason that only two were used in UFO. Even then, they were cosmetically changed and were fairly different from how they appear in Doppelganger (Journey to the far side of the sun).
What I was saying, is that in UFO the intent (according to Derek Meddings) was that the cars were either electric or a gas turbine hybrid...
Hope this helps,
Griff

http://www.allpar.com/mopar/turbine.html I would say all they had was a 4 cyl motor just to move them , all show and no go . You lookat many of the driving seen's and the film is sped up , you can tell by looking at the tree movement.

I hate to be a fly in the ointment... but to be UFO purist, Ido remember the question of the power source for the SHADO cars/vehicles being raised at Uforia, and indeed their distinctive engine sound (overdubbed in the TV series to presumably drown out the mundane sound of their very conventional engines). Ed Bishop did also mention that it was very noisy inhis (Strakers) car, and that it was a monster to drive. One was extensively damaged during the production of Doppelganger.

However, there was some mention of a gas turbine/electic for the SHADO cars (I guess we'ed call it a hybrid now). I know John Burke (akaRobert Miall) was briefed on this when he was commissioned to write the two UFO novels, and indeed he briefly mentions about how Straker's car actually gets quieter the faster it is driven.
