I have to wonder if anyone will be able to pull off a recognizable version of the characters.

Let's look at Straker. His age in 1980 is believed to be anywhere from 36 to 50, depending on what you consider to be canon. (There are huge differences of opinion here. *grin*) The movie is to be set in 2020 (so I've heard) which means that Straker would have grown up in a much different world than his original counterpart.

Casting Lake and the other ladies from the show, becomes even more problematic. Having women in leadership roles was a groundbreaking concept back then, where today it is commonplace, I have to think that the Virginia Lake of 2020 is going to be a considerably different person than her 1980's counterpart. Virginia was believed to be between 30 to 35 in 1980.

In my opinion, (and in my writing) Straker is 42, Lake is 34, and Foster is 30, in the begining of the series. Their mindsets, based on when they grew up would have to be different from their modern day counterparts, at least from my point of view.

I guess the question is, how close will the writers and actors be able to come to the portraying the original characters, considering 40 plus years of cultural evolution?
