thunderbirds model

Lieve
Hi Guys,

Earlier today we were doing a repair on a pinball at the home of people who
live close by, they have several kids and the pinball is in the kids play
room. And what did I see there? A model of a Thunderbirds set-up. Looked
like a mountain with several holes in it and various different vehicles
were underneath (one was underneath a lake which could be pushed aside by
moving a lever); then there were a couple of doors at the side of the
mountain with other vehicles. Can't describe them, I'm afraid, since I'm
not familiar with the Thunderbirds. Two looked like rockets, one like a
plane (and when one pushes a button, feet come out for the plane to stand
on. Well, not human feet :-), another like a rocket on wheels.
The guy said he had bought if for his kids ages ago, that it was not one of
the original models from the seventies but had been made by Matchbox in the
mid-80ies, but using the original moulds from the company who first made
them (which, I assume from half-reading emails on the subject, was a
company called Dinky toys)
So it seems that some of those models were at one time available in
Belgium. Can't say I would want to exchange one for my electric train
(which is over 40 years old and still worked last time I tested it :-) - am
I wrong or are these scale models more a man-thing than a woman-thing? (I
always thought models of that type were for kids, but since some people on
this list collect them, I assume that assumption was wrong)

CU

Lieve

Hi Lieve,
There's a famous 'make-it' from Blue Peter about how to build a Tracey
Island, it came out about a year after a reissue of the original island toy
in, I think it was, 1997. The tape of how to build it is actually on sale
still! It's both a girl and a boy thing.
Grant.

I'd say it's more of a nostalgia thing.
What a big rejoinder your place has! I'd be tempted to get a hotmail
account.. :-)

The 'blurb' at the end has been put in by a "consultant" who said it was
needed for "legal reasons".
I tried to get them to just put "standard disclaimers apply" and a URL, but
they wouldn't :-(
I'll try and set up another account with no disclaimer, but I doubt they'd
like that.
The software that adds the disclaimer broke my POP client too. B*stards. We
all *HAVE* to use Outlook now. >:-|

Sorry, Grant, this was way before 1997 (that's the year I joined fab-
UFO). You need to think in terms of 1992 and you would be more correct.
