what happend to this frame?

Christian J.

Hi All!

Well, there is something strange on the DVD!
Take a look at the attacking UFO from IDENTIFIED (it's from Lisa
Williams' Image Library [thanks, Lisa]):

So far so good, but on the DVD in the moment when the UFO is firing,
the frame has a changing in colo(u)r! Look:

So what happened to the DVD version? Or has Lisa edited the colo(u)r?
Lisa?

I imagine the same frame is present on the VHS copy, but Lisa
didn't happen to capture that particular frame, no? It must be
very transient, I've never noticed it before. Therefore (I
would think) there must be some very similar adjacent frames
without the odd colouration, and it's one of these that you are
comparing to.

I'd have a look, but unfortunately I don't have my VHS copy of
Destruction any more.

Err...the frames are from IDENTIFIED, James.

They may not be exactly the same frame, or the difference may just be the
result of the image processing I put all my captures through. I don't use
raw captures in my library; they always need some adjustment of the
brightness, contrast, balance, and/or saturation. With the one you captured
from the DVD, I would definitely work on it to get rid of that washed-out
look and make the detail more visible; a quick experiment indicates that
this would account for most of the difference. The color balance may also
be slightly different between the videotape and the DVD.

Yeah, I don't use "raw" frame captures on my website either.
That frame capture that Christian found is too washed-out
and greenish. But with a few seconds of image processing,
you can improve it quite a lot:
