would they have to recast Ed Straker?

Bruce Sherman
The TV series took place in 1980. Would the future movie timeline be 30 years old? Or would it be present or would it take place in the not so distant future, like the TV series was?

Lets say it would be present time, would Straker still be in command for 30 plus years?

If it were done smartly, I think a film setting the timeline back in the 70's/80's could be very interesting.
it could have sly fun in the fact that we are armed with the knowledge of that time and could even play it out
like the Shado/ secret invasion scenario really happened right under our noses. It would be an interesting challenge
to the film makers to photograph, light. costume and cast a movie to look authentically 70's/80's.
That way the movie could retain a true mod look to it and in a way sort of educate younger audiences
in a time gone by while getting them caught up in a good story.

I am afraid they will take the easy way out and make it an updated "gritty"story
shot in the usual colorless, grim, music video edited, "made for today's audience"
sort of film.

I just have not seen any good attempts at keeping the feel and look of
30 years or more past and having it mesh logically with a contemporary look.

I hope not.

Brian

Your subject line makes no sense. Obviously they would have to recast Ed Straker.  Ed Bishop has passed away.

I'm guessing the new movie will take place in the near future.  And nomatter when it takes place, it is a reboot of the series, not a continuation.

Unless I am misunderstanding the question.

The context of the message you're responding to seemed very much to assume the movie to be a continuation. If it were, and were taking place in the present day, it would be fine to assume that Straker was no longer in charge of SHADO, and present an entirely new Commander character, with a new name, which would both obviate the need to recast Ed Straker, and make the movie completely uninteresting to 99.9999993% of the members of this board.

Didn't they already do one for "Captain Scarlet?" They could just texture-map on Straker-hair!

They could have a computer as the head of SHADO as in Andromeda - ? or better still Holly from Red Dwarf!! A hologram floating in a black space.... onsecond thoughts, no! Or even someone like 'Charlie' from Charlies Angels --( no I didn't go to see the film!) a disembodied voice. Don't blame me. Marc started this post!
