2001/UFO Space Suit equipment

angelo_finamore
Hi All,

I think that is possible to confirm about the same space suit equipment used
before in "2001: A Space Odyssey" and after in "UFO" with some small
modification.
Please see at:
http://195.62.233.12/2001_ufo.htm
I find a photo "behind the scenes" from a book on Stanley Kubrick, where is
possible to see just the space suit equipment used for the stage "site
monolith", and to compare with the space suit equipment used in UFO episode
"Close Up". With some small modification and addition the prop (I think) is
the same, recycled for UFO.

On the same book, I find also another "behind the scene" photo with Stanley
Kubrick and (I think) Ed Bishop.

off with an intact one prior to that.

After all, Ed Bishop was the ARIES lunar shuttle captain in "2001". He
comes down to the passenger cabin to chat with Dr. Floyd just prior to
the "Zero Gravity Toilet" scene. :-)

Speaking of other Ed Bishop space roles, he was the Hawaii CapCom in
"You Only Live Twice" (with *dark* hair, almost didn't recognize him!)

Yup and the guy who comes round checking radiation shields in
Diamonds Are Forever at the place where they appear to be
testing lunar vehicles of some sort.

I've always wondered about that scene with the moon buggy things
in Diamonds Are Forever. Is it meant to be a joke? A suggestion
that the lunar landings were really filmed on Earth, a la
Capricorn One ?

I,ve always wondered that, too. And I cuckle everytime one of the astronauts
tries to grab Bond on the "moon" in slow motion!

I like it. Thanks!

I tried to reply over the weekend but the Yahoo conversion screwed my

Anyone have a NTSC format VHS copy of "2001: The making of a Myth"?

I expect Yuchtar's got one.

BTW speaking of Ed Bishop, I spotted him on The Professionals
tonight on Granada Plus, playing an FBI agent called Braddock.
I knew he had played a diplomat or somesuch in a different
episode, didn't know he had done two.

Hello Yuchtar? :-)

I saw him uncredited in an episode of the original "Outer Limits". The
episode was "Nightmare", one of the best of the series. He played the
psychiatrist Dr Wharf, who seemed to posses an evil streak. He played
it well. (if it wasn't him it sure looked and sounded like him) The
episode also featured a very young Martin Sheen.

I very much doubt it! However, Tiger probably has a copy of
"the two film" secreted away, which may be used as a kind of
last-resort, if the "anodyne" doesn't work!
Geesh, I wouldn't like to be any of the peops 'round here

AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH! See what you did, James?!

No, I'm sorry, I don't have a copy of this. You see I hate - no -
*LOATHE* the TWO movie, so that was James just trying to be funny.

Was this the original Outer Limited series of the 1960's? A young Martin
Sheen should put it back then - wonder why it was uncredited? Pam

Hi!

I checked it in the (very comprehensive) book "The Outer Limits
Companion" by David J. Schow but sorry, no Eddie in sight <sigh>. The
character of Dr. Whorf was played by a certain Bernard Kates. And
there is a picture in the book with him and yes, he looks like Mr
Bishop a little bit :-)

You are SO right. I looked over the episode again. My copy has poor
sound but video is OK. On closer inspection I realized I was very
wrong. Although the shadowing and distortion of many of the faces (a
hallmark of the first season cinematography, excellent BTW) led me to
think it was him at first glance. Ah wishful thinking :-/

Mea Culpa

Teresa

Although the episode IS one of the best and is definitley worth a
look!

Hi Teresa!

That's no problem, happens to me too from time to time :-)
Nevertheless you are absolutely right! "Nightmare" IS one of the best
episodes from "Outer Limits" - can't await the complete series on
DVD! 8-D
Oh! But that becomes off-topic, I think... <looking out for Marc>

Ciao, Teresa!
