You know, when Gerry Anderson talks (Fanderson documentary) of an actor
on one of his shows making a big deal about his having to talk in a RED phone, causing some re-takes... (they then cut to a shot of a red phone being hung up) It is a shot taken from "Alien Attack" (the second set of new scenes, when the Lunar Comissioner hangs up the phone) ! Very obvious, once you compare the two, on top of the both desks being the same (and so on) you see that the receptor does npt set "squarely" on the phone and that the actor has to "push" it in on the second try. Now... wether Patrick Allen (Comissioner) was actually the actor that Gerry Anderson was refering to, that is another matter... |
"Alien Attack"? Isn't that one of those UFO "movies" cobbled together from various episodes? So the red phone isn't even a part of a regular UFO episode?

Thanks Marc. I came in on the middle of the conversation apparently. Hence my extreme confusion. At least I got the "cobbled together" part correct. : ) A while back there was a post about an ebay listing involving an upright phone of some sort that was claimed to have been from UFO. That is what I mistakenly thought the discussion was about. Sorry.

If memory serves me correctly, "Alien Attack" was also the working title of a Gerry Anderson supermarionation commercial for a British gelatin product filmed around 1977. This was all detailed in an early issue of Starlog Magazine in the summer of 1978, so it was probably #17 or thereabouts. Mind you that I have not seen the actual commercial, so I have no idea if the red phone appears. But the storyline involved a hybrid Scarlet/UFO/1999 alien invasion, and there was a marionette commander. And given that we are dealing with supermarionation here, invariably a human hand would be filmed for closeup scenes of physical hand manipulations -- levers, buttons, phones, etc. Are there any U.K. residents here who can actually recall seeing this one? Close, it's a "movie" that combines two "Space 1999" episodes...
