I was looking at photos of a where are they now photo essay, and ran across an actress named Anouska Hempel as being in Space 1999. While looking at her film bio, she also had parts in UFO too. I know they were both Gerry Anderson productions and originally Space 1999 was supposed to be UFO 2, but I was surprised someone appeared in both series :)

I remember her in the first episode of Space: 1999 Season 2. In the episode her husband (Bill Fraiser I think) had piloted an eagle down to Psychon. Maya was introduced in this episode as well.
Anouska played Lt. Paulson in UFO, she was in the last six or so episodes. She was the op that was talking to Craig Collins just before re-entry in The Man Who Came Back. Strangely enough, the UFO credits all had her as the 'unnamed'
radio/sky-diver/ fill-in-the-blank operative. Chris Bentley has the character as being named Catherine Scott and IMDB has the same character as Tamara Paulson. And I simply cannot remember where that name came from. She's one of those characters that I've always wanted to threaten with scissors, or hair clips. The purple hair on Moonbase was bad enough but the sheepdog look is just wrong on so many levels. ;-) _____ From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Matt Sent: Thursday, June 30, 2011 9:01 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [SHADO] Re: Anouska Hempel was in UFO and Space 1999 I remember her in the first episode of Space: 1999 Season 2. I knew there was another name out there for her, I don't think either of them were used onscreen. In my stories I use Paulson.
I had to laugh when Foster gave her with a "get back to your seat" look in Mindbender. *grin* --- In [hidden email], "Deborah Rorabaugh" <momkat@...> wrote: > > Strangely enough, the UFO credits all had her as the 'unnamed' > radio/sky-diver/ fill-in-the-blank operative. Since I had to go through all the DVDs for the frame caps, there are some
really subtle things in some episodes. Jackson gets such a bum rap sometimes, but if you watch him in Reflections, you can see his disapproval of Straker's actions towards Anderson. Foster just seems to go along with dosing Anderson up, but you KNOW Jackson's not good with it but he's going along with in anyway. *grin* And maybe that's one of the reason's UFO has had such lasting power - some of the performances were so superbly nuanced. The little double takes from the operatives when things were getting weirder than usual, Jackson's 'mad doctor' mode. Foster's 'get back to your seat' look. The little things that make it feel like you know these people. And Lake's glares in Straker's direction. *grin* How can you not love a woman who obviously cannot believe Straker just said something so asinine? *grin* _____ From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Matt Sent: Friday, July 01, 2011 12:57 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [SHADO] Re: Anouska Hempel was in UFO and Space 1999 I knew there was another name out there for her, I don't think either of them were used onscreen. According to IMDB, she actually bought the UK rights to the blaxploitation
films mentioned in the nydailynews link to keep them out of circulation. I think Jackson and Lake were two of the most misunderstood characters in the series. Jackson had deep sense of humanity and spirituality, and Lake had a warmth that was not readly apparent on the surface.
I love some of the looks that Virginia gave Ed! The series is full of these subtle hints, it really set the bar to a new height. --- In [hidden email], "Deborah Rorabaugh" <momkat@...> wrote: > > Since I had to go through all the DVDs for the frame caps, there are some > really subtle things in some episodes. Just as a thought - maybe one of the reasons these characters are so
misunderstood is that Sheybal and Ventham were sometimes so subtle in their performances. It's a sideways glance rather than a frown, a stillness where someone else might emote large. And sometimes those things are hard catch on the small screen. Plus we never did get any background on why and how Jackson 'changed sides' to become a SHADO doctor/researcher rather than Henderson's spy. I suspect one of the other 'problems' is that the writers didn't have a good one phrase handle for either character - Straker was 'the boss, all dedication', Freeman was 'SHADO's conscience and Straker's counter-weight'; Foster was 'the young brash buck on Straker's side'. But Lake didn't seem to have a quick niche and Jackson went from 'eyes and ears of the world' to 'wild theory guy with a touch of Doctor McCoy'. _____ From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Matt Sent: Friday, July 01, 2011 3:50 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [SHADO] Re: Anouska Hempel was in UFO and Space 1999 I think Jackson and Lake were two of the most misunderstood characters in the series. Basically one of the things with Hempel buying those films was she starred in
the film Blacksnake made for Russ Myers which was his take on Blacksplotation films of the 70's. And where she got the money is from the fact she married a Lord and now runs some of the most expensive and exclusive hotels in London and around the world. I guess she forgot about her appearance in Tiffany Jones? Well actually it turns out that I was wrong and she did buy the theatrical
rights to Tiffany Jones as well to keep it from being shown. Found that out by looking up what her title name was which is Weinberg. She's not the first actress who has tried to bury her past nude film roles but the first I have heard of who has done it so effectively. Oddly truely great actresses who have them in their past like say Hedy Lamarr have simply let them be shown. There are also people who have nothing to do with the property they are buying except their desire that it cant be shown. I don't know if true or not, but the rumor is Bill Cosby (who was also in that photo essay) didn't like the old Our Gang shorts that he bought the rights so it cant be shown.

I really did not get that she had just bought the UK right but I thought the
whole of the world rights. However if its only for the UK that might be the only area she is worried having here reputation as Lady Weinburg famous hotel owner and interior designer damage by having clients see her naughty bits as the Monty Python guys used to say. I did a Google image search. I found a photo of her in UFO, so now I know here in the series. Saw she was also a Hammer girl. I couldn't picture her till I saw she was a brunette in Scars of Dracula. Also she played one of the brainwashed girls in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Jackson had deep sense of humanity and spirituality, and Lake had a warmth that was not readly apparent on the surface. I love some of the looks that Virginia gave Ed! The series is full of these subtle hints, it really set the bar to a new height. --- In [hidden email] <mailto:SHADO%40yahoogroups.com> , "Deborah Rorabaugh" <momkat@...> wrote: > > Since I had to go through all the DVDs for the frame caps, there are some > really subtle things in some episodes. Hi, Bruce,
Make sure you have "Safe Search" off, and you'll find stills from pictures she seems not to want found. Saturday, July 2, 2011, 12:59:06 PM, you wrote: B> I did a Google image search. This is what it said in imdb
In 1998 she bought the UK rights to Tiffany Jones (1973) and Black Snake (1973) in order to keep them out of circulation. This effectively blocks any future UK television screenings or video releases. However if its only for the UK that might be the only area she is worried having here reputation as Lady Weinburg famous hotel owner and interior designer damage by having clients see her naughty bits as the Monty Python guys used to say. Not all that effectively. A quick google image search will bring you multiple links where you can see young Ms. Hempel's wares. The Internet makes true burial of history near-impossible. -- Jonathan Andrew Sheen http://www.leviathanstudios.com Leviathan of the GEI (Detached.) [hidden email] "What'dya expect?
