Can it really be ten years!! RIP Ed Bishop and Michael Billington

Hi All,

I just couldn't let this week go by without commenting on the fact that it's now 10 years (Yes, 10 years!) since Michael Billington (3rd June 2005) and Ed Bishop (8th June 2005) passed away ... unbelievable, seems to have gone in the blink of an eye.

I've read and heard about people knowing exactly what they were doing on the passing of JFK. Well, I'm too young for that. But, I do remember exactly what I was doing when I heard about Ed's passing. Unfortunately, I didn't hear about Michael until some time after the fact.

I don't want for this message to be a downer ... I just want to think of all the good things we do have. After all, what a wonderful gift and legacy we have in UFO.

I agree Griff. It's been awhile since their death but we do have the fond memories and the joy that they brought to us. I'm grateful for Marc for continuing the group. Even though I don't post often I'm always delighted to receive the emails from the group.

Thanks, Griff -- I don't think it seems like yesterday, but then again, not like 10 years either... I guess I know who will be the subject of the next UFO publicity photo I post...

It is indeed hard to believe it has been so long. I should have been setting up another SHADO in that time. The danger was imminent. And the type of organisation we needed couldn’t be set up overnight. All I say is that my delay has simply increased the danger.

I apologise. I'm no Ed Straker.

Thank you for sharing. A rare thing to see outside his family I guess. He looks quite young: about 30?

I've seen that second photo of Ed Bishop before... it may have been on his wife's website once...

Hi Marc, yes, that second photo of Ed Bishop has been posted before, on August 19th 2010. I asked the members of the 'old' forum if anyone had any information about it as I was in the process of acquiring the photo which has Ed Bishop's verified autograph on it. (the autograph was edited out of the photo I posted) I also asked on the Fanderson Forum, but no-one could give me any information.

June 3 is actually my birthday, and I do remember hearing about Ed's passing it on that day. I remember reading that he grew up in Peekskill NY, which is actually the next town over from where I live. Had no idea about that. According to Wikipedia he graduated from Peekskill high school, but was born in Brooklyn.

I do remember being quite shocked that Mike Billington died just a few days later.

I must have it remembered backwards because it looks like Mike was June 3 and Ed was June 8...
