Hi All,
I was REALLY looking forward to seeing some of the UFO related comic reprints from the good old days of Countdown and TV Action in "Classic Comic Strips Volume 5" ... But last Friday, Chris Bentley in a sad missive to the Fanderson list clearly stated that this is not going to happen due to the demise of Reynolds and Hearn back in June of this year. The Century 21 Annual is also a casualty. It's not all bad news though... Best to all, Griff Please excuse me if you get this a few times, I have posted and posted but whatever Yahoo are playing at, it is not good. Please see Chris's message in total below:- ------------------------------------------- After the news broke in June of the liquidation of Reynolds and Hearn, I didn't think anyone would seriously still be expecting the Century 21 Annual to be published in August. But since it's a topic that's come up on the club forum, I thought that perhaps I'd better address it. At the point at which the company went into liquidation, everything they currently had scheduled was cancelled. That included the Century 21 Annual and Volume 5 of the strip reprints. Work on both titles had progressed no further than planning the contents: we were due to start work on the annual in June and Volume 5 soon after but that did not happen. To date, no strip restoration has taken place on those titles, no pages have been laid out, no supplementary material has been written, and neither book has been printed. As it stands at the moment, the future of the Century 21 books is uncertain but promising. Titan Books did indeed purchase the Reynolds and Hearn list, but this did not actually include any of the Gerry Anderson titles as the rights on those books were reclaimed by their respective authors prior to the sale of the list. The rights to publish the Century 21 books have instead been signed to a new imprint, Signum Books, who are now in negotiation with printers and distributors with a view to relaunching the Century 21 books some time in 2011. So despite what the listings on Amazon might still say, neither the Century 21 Annual nor Century 21: Classic Comic Strips Volume 5 will be published this year. Chris |
Hi Griff, The Shado Library has some of the comic strips on the authors pages.. although not the one I remember about the racing car sadly! I also found some strips on Flikr .. but very random ones and not full stories. Are the comics copyright? Is there anything to stop people scanning the pages and posting them elsewhere? Just asking!! and no.. I don't have any Countdown comics.. any more. If only I had held onto them.. a full set as well! Should the copyright holder complain, the Countdown comics at the SHADO
Library will come down - but if those are not available for purchase, how can having them online be hurting their sales? I WILL look for those Countdown Comic compilations at Amazon and add links to those in the comic index. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
Has anyone posted information on this here yet? Just in case they haven't...they're talking about UFOs in Washington today! http://www.examiner.com/ufo-in-phoenix/breaking-cnn-to-air-ufos-and-nukes-press-conference-live Cheers, Mary [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Hi,
I especially remember the UFO comic strip series in Countdown - I have partial copies from numerous sources. I did have a full pristine set of Countdown, together with a nearly complete set of TV Action, but they and a number of other valuables were lost in a move. Someone did well - if they knew what they were. I would simply LOVE (and pay big bucks) to see in fresh print the original early UFO colour strips from Countdown (I didn't ever regard Countdown as a comic, it meant much more to me than that!) ... You've probably all seen the Countdown and other strip scans that Project 21 did last year over on the Space 1999 Forum but in case you haven't here's the link [you need rapidshare or similar to download these scans].

Hello,
Thanks so much for reminding me about these *.cbr files, I think they really work well for comic style viewing. I did see these last year, but unbelievably I must admit to forgetting all about them... age creeping remorselessly on... Thanks again, G --- In [hidden email], "madaboutmonsters@..." <moonzero@...> wrote: > > You've probably all seen the Countdown and other strip scans that Project 21 did last year over on the Space 1999 Forum but in case you haven't here's the link [you need rapidshare or similar to download these scans]. > http://www.eagletransporter.com/forum/showpost.php?p=105624&postcount=14 > Cheers > Madaboutmonsters |

I've never heard of Countdown. Sounds interesting.
But, what do I use to open .cbr files? Scott Kellogg 21st Century Fox: The future's so bright, you gotta wear shades http://techfox.keenspace.com |
Scott,
If you change the extension from .cbr to .rar they will be easily uncompressed into a folder of jpegs. But if you want to read as a comic, then there are numerous comic reader apps out there (Windows and OSX) that will work with the files in .cbr format.
