Complete Gerry Anderson

My copy of The Complete Gerry Anderson ahs finally arrived! Not as many photos as I'd've liked, but then they had to cram in a lot...I've read most of the UFO section so far, and now I have to watch 'The Man Who Came Back' again to look out for the chauffeur - then watch Space 1999 to see if I can spot him there. I'd still argue with the definition of 'guest star' in that trivia question though - he's hardly an integral character in the episode, and technically although he was a regular Space 1999 cast member he was just a nameless operative according to the section in the book.

The chauffeur in THE MAN WHO CAME BACK was played by Mike Stevens.
In SPACE:1999, he's listed as one of the "Alphans on the Lunar
Surface" in
THE LAST SUNSET, and an "Alphan" in THE END OF ETERNITY, and "Main
Mission Operative" in THE MISSION OF THE DARIANS and SPACE BRAIN. So yes,
rather a trick question, as he was hardly a "guest star" in UFO
when the only line he has is "yes sir" and it doesn't sound like
was much of a "regular" in SPACE:1999 either.

So Jessica, how many pages does the book devote to UFO? And how many
photos? And are they rare photos, or "the usual"? Is there an
episode guide? Anything else (character guide? series background?)

Jessica - thanks for the "answer" -- kinda big let down -- sorry, but if
that's the kind of trivia one can find in the book, I'm a tad disappointed!

Marc - I'm gonna assume (uh oh) that there are not a ton of pics and most will
be standard -- but perhaps we'll be surprised.

UK Amazon lists it at 318 pages -- is that about 10-15 pages per series
(roughly)??

I assume most pages will be the episode guide for each series...

The book has separate sections for each TV show, others for the films etc,
and then groups everything into, like ITC series and earlier series. The
UFO section has a brief precise of each ep, with a 'notes section', with
stuff about script changes, when characters have different names in the
script and on the finished ep etc, and a few have 'oops' sections listing
continuity errors or mistakes. They give the regular and guest cast for
each ep in a column down the edge of the page along with the original
transmission dates. One thing I might have liked, which isn't really there,
is a list of locations like they have on the collector card set from
Fanderson, as it would've been easier to refer to the book.

As for photos, there are two colour plate sections covering all the series.
there arefour UFO ones. there is a shot from Exposed with Straker and
Freeman tasling utside the production office/lift, which appeared in the Fab
yearbook/SBFA convention book last year; one of mike billington and quinn
o'ghara on the set of Ordeal, talking on the sofa to Ken Turner. Overleaf
there is a nice shot of Ed in Straker's office filming ESP, and talking to
Ken Turner again, with George sewell just visible in the background. [i
haven't seen that one before] and finally there is a pic of joan harrington
talking to nina barry in the control sphere, which appeared in, i believe,
Fab 44.

all in all there were a few stories and snippets i hadn't heard before, but
i read the entire UFO section in five minutes whilst waiting for a taxi in
Glasgow City Centre!

Oh, and I forgot -

the UFO section is on pages 137 to 151, so that's 15pp text plus there are
the two pages of colour photos in the plates section.

And I also didn't mention, and someone might want to know this, but there is
a page of general description of the show's format, talking mainly about
gadgets and vehicles, a paragraph about production, ie it was shot at MGM
Borehamwood etc., and there is a full pge devoted to production credits.
