Computer Generated UFO

Kevin Lazenby-3
I like the idea, but obviously it would have to be 30 years + on from the
original series. It would mean that there would have to be some changes in
the storyline eg. Technology changes, character changes etc for SHADO.

Having said that, a new UFO series boils down to money. The use of
computer graphics for such a series depends on the success of the computer
generated Captain Scarlet.

I think the show could work well as an "expose" of the war once fought
in the past against the aliens, but the world never knew about at the time.
It could still be set in the past, but done in the past tense, kind of
like heralding the exploits of the brave men and women who defended us in
the secret war against the aliens.
We won the war, supposedly, & now after the security concerns have
lapsed, the story comes out....

Interesting thought. Sort of a "You are there..." type "History" show. But then how would you handle the interviews with the SHADO survivers? You would have to find actors who looked like the originals if you were going to have them play themselves.
Still this is something that could work.

We don't really have to go through all that. I'm just talking about
making a series based in the past, kind of like "Rat Patrol" or something.
We don't have to do interviews or anything. But finding actors close enough
in appearence and attitude to the originals would be the biggest problem.
Too bad they don't yet have virtual actors perfected yet (ala Final
Fantasy), then it would be simpler to simply hire back all the old actors
for their voices. That way they could get some easy work out of it, and get
a piece of the royalty action as well....

I don't know if I'm crazy or what but I thought I read or heard some time
ago that with special sound equipment, actors can re-dub their voices for
old movies or whatever when they are being re-mastered and the sound
equipment can "sweeten" their voices tot he point where they sound they way
they did 20-30 yrs ago instead of sounding gravelly as age sometimes
causes....

As I recall, several months ago we discussed making new episodes of
UFO using computer animation exclusively. The conclusion back then
was that perfecting computer animation so that you can't tell if it
is real or computer generated, is years and years away. Perhaps
convincing facial expressions would be the most difficult part.
And for the voices, as others have pointed out, the voice of an
actor 30 years later is very different. Just think about how Ed
Bishop sounds in his commenatry of Subsmash. But I guess computer
sound engineering at some point in the future will be able to fix
that as well.

Last thing, to make the series "look and feel" as close as possible
to the real thing, someone would need to hire the old writers and
old directors ASAP (before they are gone) to capture how the
episodes should be made in the future.
