Conventions

Do you think they'll ever have another UFO convention at some point
and if they do what are the chances that it will be over here in
North America?

It seems that the only UFO conventions taking place these days
are in Italy.

Certainly, in the UK there will be conventions that include
UFO as one of the series of interest. For example, the next
Fanderson convention. However, even in the UK a UFO-only
convention seems unlikely.

As for USA, I'd say that the best chance for a UFO convention
would be if it was part of a more generalized British
Sci-Fi convention or a Gerry Anderson convention. A UFO-only
convention would have to be financed by some rich person
who's willing to lose a lot money... flying guests over
from the UK is not cheap, and I doubt that a lot of people
will be willing to travel very far.

So from my understanding you have to be a Fanderson member to be able to
attend conventions. Is that correct?........Amy

No, anyone can attend. I wasn't a member when I went to Stand by for
Action in 2002, but I joined at the show because I'd been meaning to for
years.

Good Point, I forgot about the cost of flying people in for such a
convention.

I think it is the Space:1990 convention in Pinewood Studios where
the tickets are about to run out. I don't believe there is any
immenent danger of the tickets running out on the one at Borehamwood.

But I agree with Amy... with the number of UFO guests listed, this
convention is certainly worth considering!

Especially since they typically want to fly over on business
or first class.

Given that most of the potential guests for a "UFO convention"
are located in the UK, it just makes the most sense to have
a convention there.

I'm really regreting the fact that I'm going over in April not
September. Somehow I don't think I can rationalize two trips to
England in one year :(

Are you planning to fly over, Marc? Is anyone else on the list
planning to attend? I enjoyed the Fanderson convention I went to...
maybe 4 years ago now, but the highlight for me was meeting up with
various SHADO group members. Lesley... Charles & Lorraine... Marc
himself (lots of 'we are not worthy gestures' etc :-D )

It was a very well-run event and generally I was spoilt for choice as
to which part of the program to attend.

I'm watching the guest list... it's now to the point that if
they add *one more* UFO guest, I'll be making my reservations.

Although, like you say, the highlight *was* meeting up with other
fans, so I guess I should be ignoring the guest list and paying
attention to who's planning on going here!

I'm planning on going to Countdown. Need to get my reservations in...
