With there all ready being so many great UFO Web/Homepages I was
wondering if we needed any more? I only ask this as I have considered creating my own homepage dedicated to UFO. Would greatly appreciate any ideas and suggestions. Thank you, Christopher |

If you're thinking of making a page which is redundant with one of the existing UFO websites, then I wouldn't recommend it. However, if you are planning on doing something unique, then definitely do it! Marc |
Personally I feel there is little on the Net about the marvellous work of
composer Barry Gray for UFO. What I would love to see is an in-depth analysis of his score for the series, or at least a track-by-track analysis of the music available on the 2-CD set released by Fanderson. And what about UFO photostories, featuring scans of key scenes from each episode - along with dialogue of course? Hello Marc,
Are you the chap that created that wonderful UFO the series TV site? It's just bril. Anyway. Thank you for the advise. I do plan to build a site from scratch as this is the only way forward. I'm happy to anounce that I've been given my very own web space. A
fully working paid one. That should enable me to flex my muscles a bit. I've taken on board some of your comments and begun on some ideas. The phot episods sounds great. I have to say though that I only started watching UFO again last a couple of weeks ago and haven't seen all the episodes. It has been many years since I've seen them so I'll work on photo episodes as I watch them. It's going to be a long project I can see. Yep, that's me. I moderate this discussion group too. Back in the 1995-97 timeframe, it seemed like there were lots of people creating their own UFO websites. I have links to the ones which still exist on my "other UFO websites" page: http://ufoseries.com/otherWebsites.html However, in recent years the activity has dropped off significantly. Rather odd, since I'd think the UFO DVD releases would have increased the activity, not decrease it! Marc |
This is true Marc, but there are a few possibilities:
- better sites simply got more traffic and thus low-traffic sites didn't feel the need to update themselves anymore - people created their first and/or earliest Web sites based on something they liked and then got bored or didn't realize the amount of work involved in keeping it updated or even switched ISPs and let the old site die. - created the Web site as a "memory jogger" and once the DVDs released realized that having the series in their hand was better than a site on the Web. Just my .02 :) Anthony <snip> > However, in recent years the activity has dropped off significantly. > Rather odd, since I'd think the UFO DVD releases would have increased > the activity, not decrease it! > > Marc > |
HI,
I still think there are alot of UFO fans out there, but building a website isn't for everyone, I have just started not necessarily just about UFO but I hope to include some content, but it is by no means an easy thing to grasp, I believe this is the reason people don't do it, as you say the effort involved in keeping it going is always an ongoing task. I agree though I can't understand why the release of dvd hasn't generated more interest, although it may have started to introduce some younger generation fans, but then UFO if we are honest doesn't contain the same kind of technology of SCI-FI today, I don't consider myself a die hard sci-fi fan but enjoy some of the new stuff, but UFO will always be my favourite, whatever.. We Aussies are still waiting for ours!! Nothing is readily available where i
live. Maybe we need to discuss a character a month or something different like that?. People could share any inside info if they wanted too, that sort of thing? We've done the episodes and the vehicles. Just a suggestion. -------Original Message------- From: [hidden email] Date: 06/03/04 20:49:28 To: [hidden email] Subject: [SHADO] Re: Creating a new UFO Homepage On Wed, 02 Jun 2004 17:00:31 -0700 "Marc Martin" <[hidden email]> wrote: > However, in recent years the activity has dropped off significantly. > Rather odd, since I'd think the UFO DVD releases would have increased > the activity, not decrease it! A lot of web sites have closed due to the fact that many of the fans who
started them are too ill to continue with them. It takes a lot of time to maintain an up to date site as I'll bet Marc can tell you. Also the actors themselves are doing less as they age and some have passed on. I guess there is just less to talk about. RE: Creating a new UFO webpage
Marc definitely has the largest - most updated and the most comprehensive UFO site on the NET. There is always room for another Web site - and there is plenty of talent out there to create new content. There is always the possibility that someone from Hollywood will stumble across UFO and update it to a NEW film or TV series. NEW content could include: 1.) CGI 3d art - Most of the UFO series vehicles and Aliens are now in 3d Models 2.) Many NEW pictures are generated from the 3d models 3.) There are many artists that have sketched, drawn and painted UFO 4.) There are numerous model kits out there 5.) Many have fan fics and NEW UFO stories 6.) Marc updates his site frequently - but even he has more content than he can update. 7.) Have UFO Art contests 8.) Create a site with various ideas for a NEW series - maybe the right person will read it and pick up the project. Many ideas have been posted on the Shadow discussion group - but no one outside the group reads the postings. Try it - see what happens. I have a TON of content - and no where to post it. > than he can update. This is correct -- it's mostly a lack of time these days (I'll blame my wife for this! :-) ). And since I don't have as much time for the website as I used to, future updates would likely focus more on original materials from the series (original scripts, publicity photos, etc.) instead of newly created stuff. So there are plenty of opportunities for new UFO websites. > Try it - see what happens. I have a TON of content - and no where > to post it. Have you looked into free or cheap websites, or webspace that might come with your internet provider? Seems like there's a lot of stuff out there. My UFO Series Home Page costs $25/month, but that's because it takes up a lot of space and gets a lot of traffic. (for those interested, I just looked at my usage statistics. I'm using 360 MB of disk space, average 30 GB/month of traffic, and average 10,000 hits/day, 3,000 page views/day, 700 visitors/day) Marc |
> So there are plenty of opportunities > for new UFO websites. Marc, how about the copyright regulations? I remember that Carlton once wrote to you concerning this problem. Is there a solution for this? Christian |

Carlton only emailed me once, and that was to ask that I state that Carlton is the copyright holder for UFO. I put that statement on my front page, and that was that. So that doesn't seem to be an excuse for not creating a UFO website... :-) Marc |
