DVD PLAYER 1080p UPSCALING HDMI

Ed Top
I recommend watching "UFO" on a DVD player which is capable of upscaling to
1080p through a HDMI cable to a suitable HD TV. The colours are so much more
vibrant, contrast/brightness much superior to SCART.

Hmmmmn, I have just mentioned I want a much larger TV and it will be 1080p LED
hopefully. I only have a standard DVD player; you suggest a bluray? I don't know
the difference but definitely a large TV.

The "UFO" boxed sets aren't Blu Ray, unfortunately. The majority of Bu Ray films
are fairly recent which is why I don't have a player - most of the stuff I watch
is from the 40s through to the 90s. A Blu Ray player wouldn't be of much use to
me! The next best thing is a DVD player which upscales to pretty darn near HD.

That suits me; would a HD TV make much of a difference in picture quality /
resolution?

If you have a good upscaling DVD player, then the UFO DVDs look pretty
good on an HDTV set.

A number of old TV series are available on Blu-ray these days -- I've
got THE PRISONER, SPACE:1999, STAR TREK (the original series), even
THE TWILIGHT ZONE (the original).  These do have better picture quality
than you'll get from the DVDs, but whether or not you care (or can tell)
the difference depends on your vision, how big your TV set is, how picky
you are, etc.

That makes sense; have the 40th anniversary of The Prisoner series and 35th
boxset too.
Thanks

I'm surprised that some of these old TV series are available on Blu Ray -
there's hope for me yet!   "UFO" would be a great contender for Blu Ray as the
basic materials are such high quality. The problem is whether any company would
consider it commercially viable, particularly in the current economic downturn
where people are watching their pennies!
