The DVD's are more than well worth it and their quality is better
than any brodcast ever made of the series. The detail is amazing and the sound quality first rate. These things totally blow tapes away! ...and then you add on the extras of the DVDs, it's just no contest. And they have actually done a bit of work on the presentation, too. Bottom line: if you can afford it, buy thm - they are *well* worth the cash. Dave. |

I'll second that. The DVD's are worth every penny I paid for them.
Can't wait til Fireball XL-5 is released. [oh, oh - giving away my age] OK I'm 43. Steve Christensen >Bottom line: if you can afford it, buy thm - they are *well* worth the >cash. |

Actually, it was shown here in the US in 1965. I was 6 at the time. Fireball was my first lunchbox. I have a rather large Fireball XL-5 collection. http://www.geocities.com/ualdc10/xl5.htm See the links to my collection. I wrote an article for "Model and Toy Collector" about 10 years ago, that featured my collection and such. I'm hoping that Carlton will release Fireball early. I believe their expected sometime next summer. Thanks; Steve Christensen |

Very cool. Did you get those items from other collectors or are they from your childhood? I just remember seeing it when I was young. I thought it was earlier
that 1965 which is why I asked if you saw it in your crib. I remember we got it the year after they stopped showing SuperCar. I though XL-5 was much cooler. It would have had to be on before 1965 because it ran here before the whole spy craze started in 1964. Anyone else recall seeing it before 1965? James K. James;
I believe that Fireball was shown in the UK in 1963 and made it to the States in 1965. We had Supercar also, but again, it was shown later in the States then the origional air dates in the UK. I grew up in New England in the Hartford, Conn. and Boston, Mass area. I remember ther Fireball was on Saturday mornings. Even got the big playset one yeat for Christmas and my first lunch box was Fireball. Always wanted to be Steve Zodiac. Even today, with the wires visible and all, Fireball was the coolest thing going. The space race was just getting going and there was Fireball XL-5. I missed most of the other Gerry Anderson shows, very little of the Thunderbirds, no Stingray. Then UFO came out. I was hooked. The first thing that I really recall about UFO was SkyDiver and the Interceptors. My brothers would setup cockpits and pretend to be blasting the UFO's right alongside the SHADO pilots. Then there was the women, Lt. Ellis for one. But most if not all the women on UFO, were just georgous. Anyone could have been the number one beauty in the show. Most of the collectables that I have revolve around either Fireball or UFO. Thanks for the reply. Steve Christensen > I just remember seeing it when I was young. Steve,
Turns out we are both right about when Fireball XL-5 was shown in the USA. I checked the website for Saturday Morning TV and according to them Fireball XL-5 was shown on NBC from 1963 through 1965. I think the reason you didn't see it early when I did was back then TV was a lot different than it is now. A lot of local TV station weren't network affilliates and so got their programs from all three networks and showed them when and where they wanted too. So perhaps this was the case in that you station that you saw Fireball XL-5 on just carried it in 1965 and mine only carried it in 1963. The series by the way was original aired in England in 1961. I remember when we first got SuperCar very well. The day it first showed was the day after I came down with the measles, so I couldn't watch it but just listen to it on the TV in the other room turned up so I could hear it. We got Stingray next but not until 1967. Then we didn't get any more Anderson series till we got UFO in 1972. It meant alot to me because I was recover from being very ill due to my diabetes and as I have mention before that is how I came to try to contact the cast and thank them and ended up friends with one of the cast(see no name dropping this time<g>) Hope you still have your Fireball XL-5 lunchbox in good condition, Steve.
