Hi all,
I saw this mentioned on the Fanderson discussion group... it appears that the family of Derek Meddings is auctioning off some of his old stuff on November 22nd, as part of a "Film and Rock & Roll" auction. http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r?sContinent=EUR&screen=Catalogue&iSaleNo=13643 Some notable items for UFO fans: Lot 128 - 2,000 Gerry Anderson related stills, including an unknown number from UFO Lot 156 - Preproduction sketch (color) of Lunar Module & Carrier Lot 157 - Original sketch of Moonbase Interceptor Lot 158 - Original sketch of Skydiver The estimated prices are extremely expensive... well beyond my means! I e-mailed Fanderson around about the 10th September about this and
again recently but still nothing about such a major event on their news page whereas the TV21 website put it up straight away. I really cannot understand why... The Doppelganger lot may be a bargain as it's 9? sketches and 2 must be the Jeep and spacesuits. --- In [hidden email], "Marc Martin" <marc@...> wrote: > > Hi all, > > I saw this mentioned on the Fanderson discussion group... > it appears that the family of Derek Meddings is auctioning > off some of his old stuff on November 22nd, as part of > a "Film and Rock & Roll" auction. > > http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r? sContinent=EUR&screen=Catalogue&iSaleNo=13643 > > Some notable items for UFO fans: > > Lot 128 - 2,000 Gerry Anderson related stills, > including an unknown number from UFO > > Lot 156 - Preproduction sketch (color) of Lunar Module & Carrier > > Lot 157 - Original sketch of Moonbase Interceptor > > Lot 158 - Original sketch of Skydiver > > The estimated prices are extremely expensive... well beyond my > means! > > Marc > |

Maybe they want the stuff all to themselves... <evil laughter> Maybe they were more concerned with their upcoming convention? Maybe they don't have the time to do everything that fandom demands from them? <I can relate to this> Marc |

Fanderson has certainly covered auctions in the past, so I think they've just been to busy with other things. And yes, I missed the significance of the "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun" auction, in that it probably does contain sketches of things that ended up being in UFO... it's a pity that the information about some of these auctions is so limited -- I guess you just have to be there to really know what exactly is being sold... (for example -- the lot with 2000 stills may certainly be of interest, but how do I know without having more information about what these stills are?) Marc |

Hi all,
Note that I've added links to all of the UFO-related auctions on my "what's new" page, so you can see the photos they have of the items: http://ufoseries.com/new.html I noticed that you could zoom in on the photos, so I looked at the source code and was able to figure out how to get at the highest resolution version of each photo, but unfortunately, this is only 600 x 455 pixels, which is no better than the JPEGs I already have on my website... I take that back... By copying the zoomed-in image and then piecing it back together in an image program, you can get quite a respectable resolution out of this auction website. For example, here is the one I just made of the Interceptor sketch: http://www.ufoseries.com/preProduction/interceptor.jpg That's better quality than I had before... (time to work on the others) Marc |

However I don't think it's possible to de-pixellize a low-quality original image (although CSI does it all the time on TV). The one you posted is just too smooth, the shading too gradual and the text too crisp to be an upscale. Maybe I'm wrong though. Paul |

All you need to do is access the high resolution graphics and save them (easier said than done - I spent most of the afternoon figuring this out!) Marc |

By the way, here are all four of the UFO pieces up for auction (hi-res): http://ufoseries.com/preProduction/interceptor.jpg http://ufoseries.com/preProduction/lunarCarrier.jpg http://ufoseries.com/preProduction/skydiver.jpg http://ufoseries.com/preProduction/diverArt.jpg Marc |
Thanks for the pictures Marc!
BTW, I do envy you on your bandwidth. I am trying to download these Space: 1999 episodes for more than 3 weeks, and I have none completed as yet. As for UFO, as you mas have seen for yourself already, we aren't the only people hoping for it to be broadcast in HD again, so we could catch them (at least in Xvid) this time. We know that masters do exist and it only remains to hope. ...also the Lot. No. 150 have: "An original design for Spectrum Side arm gun, from Captain Scarlet, 1967, pencil and charcoal drawing, 8 x 13 inches" but I see this very similar to the gun used in UFO...
