Doppel ganger - 2 versions

lazenbyland
I'm sure that two versions of this film were released.

The film is shown fairly regularly on UK TV but I'm sure when I was
younger that the version I saw then had our version of Roy Thinnes in
the reverse world. i.e after crashing on the planet, the writing was
reversed to us and Roy Thinnes.

But the version I've seen for the last few years is the one where the
writing appears normal all the time.

Certainly, the only version I've ever seen had 'reversed
writing', but I haven't seen it for 7 or 8 years. I hope
someone hasn't assumed this was a mistake and "corrected" it.

Yes, it wasn't a different "version", but instead someone reversed
a reel of the film while transferring it to video...

What I never understood about this film is that I
clearly remember the (reverse) folks telling Thinnes
that they had reversed the polarity of his return ship
or equipment or whatever so that he could dock with
his obiting ship. But when it came time, the ship was
rejected and he crashed onto Reverse Earth. That
appears to be a big goof in the film. It should have worked...right?

Hi All :)

Does anyone know if the Antonia Ellis that produces the TV program "Sex and
the City" is the same Antonia Ellis "Joan Harrington" that we all know and
love?

Suzanne Neave in UFO/Mosquito Squadron

Griff!
In reply to this post by Marc Martin
Hi All,

I watched Suzanne Neave "Mary Straker" in Mosquito Squadron at the weekend.

It's strange her role was very similar in MS as in UFO, wife of a
military(RAF) man always away on missions, causing disrupted relationship
etc etc... she looked and acted exactly as in UFO - in fact they could have
been filming the two at the same time, and she just strolled from one set to
the other.

I do not mean this in a disrespectful way by the way, just an observation...

It's been a subject of some controversy, as Ed Bishop has said at
conventions that she is the same person. However, doing an Internet
search reveals that this other Antonia Ellis is young -- like in her
20s or 30s -- which disqualifies her as being the same person I would
think... :-)

I believe that Fanderson is planning on publishing an interview with
*our* Antonia Ellis -- hopefully we'll see it soon in an issue of FAB,
and find out what she's been up to lately.

Re: Antonia Ellis

Bill Cotter
The official bio for the Ellis producing "Sex and the City" doesn't
sound like it's her - no acting mentioned, although it does say she
lived in London. Then there's a bio on the website for the play
"Chicago" that talks about her acting and "Sex and the City" - very
confusing! However, since the HBO bio says she was born in Ohio my bet
is that it's two different people...

SEX AND THE CITY
Producer

Antonia (Toni) Ellis is currently working in New York as a Producer on
the sixth season of SEX & THE CITY. Between the second and third
seasons of SEX & THE CITY, she stayed on the East Coast to work as the
Co-Producer on the six-hour mini-series entitled THE CORNER. Based on
the best-selling book by David Simon, this powerful true story was
awarded the Emmy® for Best Mini-Series, 2000 and the Peabody Award.
Prior to this, she Co-Created a children's program entitled CINDY: THE
ADVENTURES OF CINDERELLA'S DAUGHTER and also worked as a
Writer/Producer. In 1998, she was a Producer on a television sit-com
pilot for DreamWorks/ABC entitled IMMEDIATE FAMILY while also working
at DreamWorks SKG Television as a Production Executive and as the Head
of Post Production for nearly three years. Before joining DreamWorks
during its start-up in 1996, she was the U.S. Supervising Producer on
the reality-based French co-production/television series USHUAIA:
ADVENTURES OF NICOLAS HULOT, which was slated for both international
and domestic syndication. Ms. Ellis was the Associate Producer on the
CBS-TV drama series DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN for the first three
seasons. Additional television credits include the series, SESSIONS
for HBO and GRAPEVINE for CBS-TV.

Her domestic and international production and post production
background began in feature films, working with such companies as the
BBC (London), Columbia Pictures, 20th Century Fox Film, Castle Rock
Entertainment, Morgan Creek Productions and Universal Studios. Her
feature credits include CITY SLICKERS, PARENTHOOD, YOUNG GUNS II,
COUPE DE VILLE, RED SHOE DIARIES, FORD FAIRLANE and MARRIED TO THE
MOB. Antonia began her early career in stadium rock concert
promotion/production and the record industry, which led to radio
announcing as an On-Air Personality and Producer.

She is currently enrolled at Harvard University in pursuit of a
Masters of Liberal Arts Degree in Literature and Creative Writing, and
a portion of her screenplay was recently published in Harvard's
Charles River Review. She earned her B.S. in Communications at Miami
University (Ohio) with an emphasis in Television & Radio Production
and also holds a Music Minor in Classical Piano Performance, including
a semester abroad in London, England at Ealing College. Additional
post-graduate course work includes Robert McKee's Story Structure,
Writers' Boot Camp, AFI's Story Analysis, and Robert Bordiga's Nuts &
Bolts Seminar.

Ms. Ellis is a member of the American Film Institute and Women in
Film. She previously held a position on the Advisory Board for the
Caption Center (division of WGBH). An Ohio native, Ms. Ellis moved to
Los Angeles in 1989 and resides there permanently. However, she has
lived and worked in New York City for the past four years, and prior
to 1989, in London, England and Miami, Florida. Her hobbies include
music, yoga, scuba diving, golfing, mountain biking, hiking, skiing,
baking and knitting. As a volunteer for City Hearts, she is very
passionate about encouraging children and helping them build their
self-esteem through the arts.

CHICAGO
Antonia created the role of Roxie Hart in England, first at the
Sheffield Crucible, and then later at the Cambridge Theatre, London,
1979.
Antonia spent a year and a half prior to Chicago in 'Pippin' on
Broadway, and went on to star in the US National Tour. Her other
credits include "Ring Round The Moon", "Once In A Lifetime", "Please
Of Hyde Park", "Up Victoria!", "At The Music Hall", "Sweet Charity",
"Company", "Irma La Douce", "Lie Down, I Think I Love You", "The
National Health" and "Kingdom Coming". Her film work includes Ken
Russell's "The Boy Friend", "Mahler Lives", "Percy", "Good-bye
Gemini", "The Pirate" and "It's A Two Foot Six Inches Above The Ground
World". Her TV work includes "Tommy Tune Special", "Sunshine" and "The
Users". Antonia has also worked as a choreographer on "Jesus Christ
Superstar".
Antonia's hobby is photography.
At one time, she had her own jazz ballet touring Canada and Europe.
Antonia's 1979 biography states that she "is married to a theatrical
producer and has three sons"
At the moment, Antonia is in the production team for the popular US
Comedy "Sex In The City".

It's my understanding that *our* Antonia was in CHICAGO, but had nothing to
do with SEX IN THE CITY.

Sex In the City is shot at Silvercup Studios in NYC (just beneath the
Queensboro bridge if I recall correctly). Why doesn't someone just call
her there?

Marc -
if you are refering to the interview where she says that she has a lot
in common with the characters among other things being in her 30's it is
possible that she might be speaking tongue in cheek and mean instead that she is
nothing like the characters in Sex in the City. But on the other hand it might
be true. But Antonia has dissappeared from acting after acclaim for her work
in Chicago on stage and doing the film Pirates. This is about the same time
that the Antonia Ellis who writes first turned up. So only Antonia knows for
sure.

James

The later part of this bio is indeed that of the Antonia Ellis who appeared
in UFO. I have seen her in Mahler and The Boyfriend and it is the same
actress. It is also stated in the bio given for her in the UFO cast information at
she had her own dance company. Draw your own conclusions.

Antonia Ellis

Griff!
Hi All :)

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the great feedback about my question
as to whether the Antonia Ellis that produces "Sex and the city" and Antonia
Ellis "Joan Harrington" from UFO are one and the same person.

I must admit though, I think it is still open to question, although it is
indeed beginning to look as if they are one and the same.

Should anyone does come up with anything concrete please keep myself and the
list posted.

Thanks again,

Best, Griff

ps. Now if she IS a film producer... does she also produce films for
Harlington-Straker film studios, and could this explain her long periods of
absence? ;) ...has she really been on the Moon all this time? ;)

Again on Antonia Ellis

teresa.c
Hi Griff,
I just got to know that Paolo Malaguti has been in touch with Antonia
Ellis for a long time. Perhaps we should ask him to contact Antonia
and inquire.
We are rather busy for the Finale Ligure event (featuring Ed Bishop
and Alan Perry, scheduled for this Friday) but I'm sure Paolo would
be happy to help -- in due time. Should we proceed?
Cheers,
teresa

Well, we do know that Sylvia Anderson works for HBO in the UK so
there may be some connection there between her and Antonia Ellis.
