Doppelganger - 2 versions

No, it wasn`t a foul up. The mirror earth reversed the polarity, on the
assumption that it was the same as everything else.

The problem was, the polarity on both
this & the mirror earth are the same.

Although I won`t swear to it, if the
polarity is reversed, wouldn`t it be anti-matter? Possibly a question for
the more scientifically minded out there.

No reason for a reversed-polarity Earth to consist of
anti-matter, no.

Best not to analyse this too much. Remember in the film that they
said Colonel Ross had been to Mars. Well, if that were the case then
he would have met up with his mirror self.

Not necessarily - the position of Mars relative to Earth 1 would
obviously not be the same as for Earth 2, and it couldn't be an
optimal time to travel from both.
