Eclectic 21 Convention, May 2001.

Neil May
I was wondering if anyone could tell me who did the
version of the UFO theme which was used at the
Eclectic 21 Convention in Leicester last year. It was
used on the montage of clips used to introduce the Ed
Bishop & Michael Billington interviews.
I know that a band called The Wedding Present recorded
a version of the UFO theme too - does anyone know if
this is available? I'm also interested in knowing if
there are any other versions of the UFO theme about,
was there a version on 'Power Themes 90?'
I overheard someone at the convention last year - I
think it was the guy who was interviewing Mike - that
he was going to ask him whether he had turned down a
part in the new series of the 'Crossroads' soap opera.
I got the impression that this was a bit of a wind-up
question - the question wasn't actually asked - but, I
wondered out of curiosity if anyone could throw any
light on this?
Finally, UFO fans may be interested to know that on
Channel 4 on Thursday 5th September at 3.05am there's
a showing of 'Hands Of The Ripper'. This 1971 Hammer
Horror features Jane Merrow from 'The Responsibility
Seat' & Keith Bell from 'Reflections In The Water'.

Yes, the above two version of the UFO theme do exist,
and shouldn't be too hard to find. There's actually
about 20 (!) cover versions of the UFO theme that I know
about...

Yes I think there was but it was a more computerised-rap- miss-match than a
version of the theme. I remember it ends with the voice of Paul Foster from
the 'Square Triange.' It was a bit like the Thunderbird theme that was
released as a single the same year. That's also on the Lp. On the LP record
they even do the Persuaders, the Prisoner, Captain Scarlet, Stingray among
others which I can't remember. Long time since I saw my record collection
out of the loft.
