This is the bit which is 'introduced by Captain Blue'. The Captain actually makes an appearance at the beginning of the documentary, sitting at Col White's desk, with the words "Hi there. I'm Captain Blue, and I'm going to tell you about Captain Scarlet and the SPECTRUM organisation, and their unending fight against he threat from the Mysterons". The documentary was clearly made recently, and obviously features Ed Bishop in a recent voiceover as Captain Blue that continues throughout the documentary. Captain Scarlet (Francis Matthews) also makes an appearance ("Does Colonel White know you're sitting there, Adam?"). Happily (and remarkably) Francis Matthews' voice sounds exactly the same, while Captain Blue sounds a wee bit older and slightly strained, understandably after more than thirty years. And .. at the end of the DVD there's a brief interview with Ed, wearing the famous Certina watch and looking very sharp (possibly even kerplop-esque) in a blue checked shirt! He has this to say: "The timelessness of the series is simply that .. like for Disney, I think he said that there's a new audience for his works every seven years .. or every ten years, whatever - and I think that the same holds true, certainly for Captain Scarlet and most of Gerry's output. The technical achievements are fine, the same values of good and evil, of excitement and tension, suspense are all there and those elements never go out of circulation, never go out of demand. And I knew that this would go on, I really did. But Captain Scarlet was crap compared to UFO." So, looks like the Capt Scarlet box set is a must for all you Ed Bishop fans out there. James PS I made Ed's last sentence up. |

Hm. Maybe I should take pity on the (female) Bishop-Fans on this group and post one or two pics? :-) And a few more on the EdBishopFans group too? (After all this is Marcs UFO group, not Marcs Bishop group ;-) CU Christian |

I'm afraid my sexual preference prevents me from offering a definitive opinion on that point. James |

I suppose the dialogue that Francis Matthews and Ed provided was the voice overs we thought were tests for the CGI version of Capt. Scarlet? More on topic however...the Sci Fi Channel broadcasts of UFO ended last Sunday (yesterday) with "The Long Sleep". I still get a twinge of sadness when I watch that episode, knowing that was the very last one. Sheila Still UFO Crazy crazy crazy crrraaazzzzy! |

Don't know where the studio is though. > More on topic however...the Sci Fi Channel broadcasts of UFO > ended last Sunday (yesterday) with "The Long Sleep". > > I still get a twinge of sadness when I watch that episode, > knowing that was the very last one. > I must say those sepia-toned scenes of Piccadilly Circus and Covent Garden in The Long Sleep really affect me. I wander round those places two or three times a week, and every time I see them in 1970 on UFO, I just long to jump into the TV and look around the West End of London, thirty years ago. James |
