Hi All,
Just in case anyone's wondering what happened to me... due to a cancelled airplane flight it took us 2 days to get home from our trip, and now both my wife & I are sick -- also probably due to the airplane fight... I sometimes think we should just drive, no matter HOW far we're going... :-) With all this sickness (now and for the most of last year), my UFO Series Home Page is going to have to take a lower priority until I start catching up with a million other things on my to-do list... heck, I still need to finish my Christmas shopping!!! And to bring this message back on topic -- now that it's January, should we be starting up the UFO episode of the week discussions? And if so, should we allow 1 or 2 weeks per episode? Happy New Year to Everyone! -- Marc Martin, [hidden email] |
Hi Everybody! <waving at all in the SHADO list>
Welcome back Marc! Sorry to hear about your trip and illness:-( As for your question about the UFO episode discussions, I vote every two weeks per episode. Some of us (like me) sometimes don't have the time to watch their VCRs on a weekly basis. I'll send Dr. Jackson over to check on you:-) Susan Weller [hidden email] |
Here's a free web poll thing that doesn't require obnoxious ads to
appear (well, OK, there *is* a subtle text hyperlink, but it's better than those that force slow-loading graphics onto your page): http://www.alxnet.com/services/poll/ You can do this with CGI as well, but it's a pain in the butt to implement, especially with a hobby site. As a long-time urban legends aficianado and computer geek, I hope the plotlines/stories will feature a lot of UL material. Go UFO2, looking forward to hearing more about new developments! I just got my tape with Confetti-Check A-OK (is it just me, or is Mary Straker an incredible whiner?) and Sub-Smash. Uh, yes, she is definitely a whiner. Don't you just want to punch her face? I do! So of course I'd like to start with those two eps if we're gonna have a discussion on the site, har har! We tend to discuss them in production order. Marc will keep you right;-) Y'know how sometimes we watch an old show years after our original fascination and say "Gawd, that was so mindbendingly awful - what did I ever see in that program?" Well, that DIDN'T happen last night when I parked my butt in front of the TV to watch my UFO tape. In fact, the tape went a long way to re-confirming for me why I loved the show to begin with! Everything, from the music, to the hardware and the s/f was cool. Phew, I'm very glad about that! Soooo, I certainly hope that UFO2 becomes a reality (with an update of course) - am looking forward to the next shipment of UFO tapes! I'm still dumbfounded about it all. I can't believe it after all these years. I get the feeling, however, that all the interest in UFO on the web has helped this come about. -- Suzanne Sutherland aka drdougjackson |

Given the megabucks spent on flopped films, UFO is a pretty good bet, what with the sophistication of the original series and all. I can't help but think that the stolen body parts angle will ooze into the collective consciousness of the urban legend crowd (and there are tons of those people - and I don't mean those stupid horror movies). Plus, there's all us boomers remembering our childhood viewing experiences that want to "download" to our kids (makes for multiple views of the film and a resurrection of the merchandising angle). Heh - it's a no-brainer. Add to that the relative simplicity of producing special effects via powerful computers and software. Let's hope they don't munge the whole thing. Whoops, forgot to include a link to Martin's site:
http://www.martinbowersmodelworld.com/Model%20of%20the%20Month.htm The original modelmakers will be an invaluable asset to the CGI guys (some shots may be better served with real, physical models, actually). Paul |

Dear Suzanne and all- I think you are soooo right about this web site and
the others keeping interest alive in UFO2! Hats off to Marc Martin and all our wonderful Italian fan-friends who've been keeping us abreast about the latest developments RE: UFO2. Some last comments about Confetti-Check and Sub-Smash before Marc puts us in "order" - I thought it interesting that Straker so obviously put Nina Barry off vis a vis what they'd said to each other when they thought it was curtains on Skydiver - it was clear he didn't want to approach the subject at all with her - was this because he didn't care for her at all, or didn't want to complicate their lives by expressing an interest? I liked his line about it being the things we don't say, etc. Straker's claustrophobia angle was also an interesting little sub-plot. However, I think it was something of a cop-out that Capt Waterman blew away the UFO-sub so easily - I think would have added immensely to the drama if the UFO was still down there somewhere, lurking about to pounce again - perhaps even interfering with the rescue effort. RE: Straker's ex-wife - I think she was a dimwit. She seemed to expect Straker to be her whole world - with no inclination on her part to make anything of herself except to be a recepticle (sp?) for his kids (not a bad job, that, but only on a part time basis, ha ha!). She could have gone back to night school, gone out with her friends, taken up a craft or some other useful hobby, taken a job - in short - made a life for herself. Most of the women I know who've been married to military men spent a great deal of time on their own and as a result, cultivated a nice network of friends, activities and hobbies, even became employed whenever possible. I find it hard to imagine Straker actually being in love with such a stupid git. He's so independent and hard-nosed, you'd think he'd prefer a more independent woman at his side. The eps is great in terms of telling us how SHADO got started, setting the stage for the conflict between Straker and Henderson (the General ends up holding the "purse-strings"), a nice variety of other things, including showing us the main HQ operatives we've come to know, training in secret at Nina's apt. Nice little story this episode! Ciao for now - Pam |

Sorry to hear you are all having a rough time of it:-( > As for your question about the UFO episode discussions, I vote every two > weeks per episode. So I vote for 2 weeks per episode;-) > > > I'll send Dr. Jackson over to check on you:-) Suzanne and I watched two episodes of the Persuaders yesterday. I got her some Persuaders videos for Christmas. And blow me down 5 people who had been in UFO turned up in them. Maxwell Shaw, Lois Maxwell, the Australian guy who was in Skippy, whose name escapes me now, the guy who plays the Russian talking to Lt Ellis at the end of The Responsibility Seat about "wodka" and another actor my tired brain cannot recall now. (Looks to Suzanne to fill in the gaps) So I will await instructions as to when we start discussions and with which episode. Although I presume it will be "Identified" Sheila Still UFO Crazy crazy crazy crrraaazzzzy! > > Susan Weller > [hidden email] > > > > > |

The way the silly woman went off like a flustered hen because he saw Straker with a girl in his car; how did she know (or think she knew!) that the girl wasn't a business customer or whatever? Even if Straker was only a movie boss and not running a secret agency also, surely he might be into commercial secrets? |

RE: Anthony's comments vis a vis Mary Straker - she was completely wrong for
a man in Straker's position and one would think Straker, being as logical and smart as he was, that he'd have already known she was wrong for him. Her behavior was completely without any thought or consideration of the kind of work her hubby was possibly engaged in. I also thought it VERY interesting when Alec nixed Straker's query about clue-ing Mary in - I think Alec refers to SHADO's security forces as being worse than the CIA - which means they wouldn't hesitate to eliminate anyone they considered a security risk - well, Straker was married to a risk whether he told her anything or not!
