You're welcome! And here's the complete Ed Bishop interview: http://ufoseries.com/movieClips/lateEd.wmv Note that Ed makes a few mistakes here, but of course, he is trying to remember things that happened 20 years prior... Marc |

I was wondering because Ed's son died in January 1988 and I was curious as to when he felt able to get back to this kind of activity. Ed even made an unprompted reference to the death of his fictional son in the interview which I thought was interesting given the tragedy he'd experienced earlier that year. David |

Of course, I do have a second source of this recording from you Sarah, which doesn't seem to have this hiss, but it also is missing the first second or two. I suppose I could get fancy and combine the two to get both the full recording plus better sound quality... Marc |

I did wonder whether this was taken from my copy or another. Back in 'the good old days' VCRs took a few seconds to start recording - that and the fact a 3 hour tape cost £10 so every second counted! When I think about it - that set of videos cost more than the DVDs - but it was worth it :-D Sarah |

S'truth! I remember seeing those 'Late Night Late' interviews live.
I'm sure the interviewer was David Vickery (now a radio DJ I believe). I can't believe it was almost twenty years ago. Even though I was a member of Fanderson, for some reason I didn't know about the Uforia convention until it was mentioned on this program, and as a direct consequence I went along to Uforia (London) and later Uforia 2 (Bradford UK) and met my UFO heroes. Somewhere I have the 'Late Night Late' interviews with Ed and Dolores on S-VHS, although I don't have an S-VHS VCR now... everything's DVD. I'll see if I can find them as with the right player, S-VHS double scanned the recording - almost broadcast quality (the sound recordings were very much better as well if I remember) in the UK from the standard PAL 625 lines to over a 1200. So, it should be possible to get near broadcast quality. I sure hope I didn't throw those recordings out... Little piece of trivia... I do remember that at (I think it was Uforia2) Ed Bishop's wallet (went missing), and he was especially upset as he had a favourite photo of his late son in the wallet. I think in the end, the wallet was found... don't know whether it was returned, or it had been misplaced, but all was well in the end. Another thing, I had a real good talk/chat with Ed off stage (for about 20 minutes). I can't remember how it came about, think I was unwell, and he was just waiting off stage in the wings (during the ontstage interviews with Gerry Anderson and Tony Barwick - I think...) Anyway, we got on real well, and he was reminiscing about how things had gone for him since UFO, and then he showed me the watch that he wore in UFO, and even let me try it on... He mentioned that he was gradually restoring/decorating his house in Warwick? and that when he retired, he wanted to buy a sailing ship, and sail around the world (very gradually). He said it was just a dream of his. I remember how really genuine he was, he was really interested to know who I was and what I was about. He wasn't just acting interested, he was real, and I was really struck with his integrity. He of course didn't know me from Adam, but I went away deeply impressed. Even more poignant now here's no longer here. Anyway, that's all folks... Best to all :) Griff |

Wow, an S-VHS recording... if you can transfer that over to DVD, I'd be interested in re-encoding these videos with this as the source (those Sci-Fi Channel commercial breaks were on a S-VHS tape, although the quality of the episode still looked pretty bad on the Sci-Fi Channel). Hi all,
Several years ago, Andy Lovie sent me a video of Ed Bishop at the Cult TV 86 convention. The video quality was poor, but it was still interesting and I uploaded it to my temporary directory as a Quicktime movie. Now I have made a Windows Media 9 version: http://ufoseries.com/movieClips/edCultTV86.wmv CAUTION - video is 49 minutes long and the file size is around 70 MB! Before officially adding this to my website, I'd like to find out if anyone else knows anything else about this convention, as I can find no reference to it on the web. Does anyone know if this is indeed from the "Cult TV 86" convention, and if so, where did it take place and when? Thanks again to Andy for sending me this! Marc |

I just watched this; it played immediately and took only a few seconds to download. It is much better quality than the previous QT version, I'm guessing as good as the 'original' you have? I use quotes because it looks to me as if this is a second or even third generation copy of the original footage. It's still an excellent interview and I am very grateful for the chance to see it :-) > Before officially adding this to my website, > I'd like to find out if anyone else knows > anything else about this convention, as I > can find no reference to it on the web. > Does anyone know if this is indeed from > the "Cult TV 86" convention, and if so, where > did it take place and when? I'd always assumed this was organised by 'Cult TV', but there's no reference on their website. They do mention that in the 'early days' there were many different organisations using the name 'Cult TV', so maybe this was a 'one-off' event..? :-/ > Thanks again to Andy for sending me this! I'll second that - and thanks to you Marc for all your efforts :-D Sarah |

What's happening is that it starts playing WHILE it is downloading, so you don't notice how long it is taking to download because you are watching the video at the same time. > It is much better quality than the previous QT > version, I'm guessing as good as the 'original' you have? Well, I did some tweaking to the picture, so it may even be better than the original in some respects... however, there isn't much resolution in the source material I have, because, like you say, it is probably a 2nd/3rd/4th generation copy... > I'd always assumed this was organised by 'Cult TV', but there's no > reference on their website. Yes, that is what I find most curious -- the "Cult TV" website makes no mention of this event, so I'm wondering if this might be some sort of other "Cult TV" event? The references in the clip do indicate that it does take place in the UK, and that it is sometime around 1986... Marc |
I have not been to any of the current Cult TV events but I can say that
there was certainly something similar before it in the 80's that I went to. I cannot remember being at any with UFO cast but there were good panels on Doomwatch and Adam Adamant. If I have any literature left over from them they would be buried in my parents attic and would probably take a few years to find up there! > > Yes, that is what I find most curious -- the "Cult TV" website > makes no mention of this event, so I'm wondering if this > might be some sort of other "Cult TV" event? I'll have a real good look for them. I've moved since I last saw them, but when I find them I'll send them to you :) Best to all :) Griff ps. The 'Late Night Late' show was broadcast from a now defunct (but popular) TV company on the south coast of England called TVS (Television South). |

Wow, it sounds like you are going to beat the "premiere" of the book at the San Diego Comic Con (July 26): http://www.hermespress.com/sdcci.html Marc |
Most people will probably receive them at about the same time the
convention is occurring - no foul. :) On Jul 12, 2007, at 3:28 PM, Marc Martin wrote: > > FAB Gear expects to start shipping the book next week. > > Wow, it sounds like you are going to beat the "premiere" > of the book at the San Diego Comic Con (July 26): > > http://www.hermespress.com/sdcci.html > > Marc > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
