FLIGHT PATH

Christian J.
Hello!

Time for my impressions of the episode of the week :-)

I like this episode although it is not one of my favourites - mainly
because of the illogical parts. On the plus side are the scenes with
the UFO attacking Roper in his car, Dawson attacking Carol and the
scenes on the Moon, which are all very dramatic and moody (well, at
least IMO :-) And this I have noticed:

* Roper is driving home (in Straker's car? :-) at night. This is
a so-called "day-for-night" shot: it is shot at a sunny day using a
blue filter and the lenses were adjusted two diaphragms smaller (I
hope this is right word?) To intensify the night effect the car
lights were switched on too. Simple, isn't it?

* When the phone rings at Roper's home he put it up immediateley,
waits about seven seconds before he held the receiver to his ear and
then he hears a voice saying "Hello Roper! How's your wife?"
That's really scary. The caller knows when Roper has the receiver
in
the right position so that he can hear him!

* Roper's license number ist A21 384. Have to look what
Straker's number is... (maybe Roper lend the car from his boss
:-) That would explain the reaction of Straker when he was told that
Roper crashed with his car :-))

* At Roper's inquisition, Straker says amazingly rather softly:
"Come on, come on...". Freeman comments this with: "You're
pushing him to hard!" I found that always amusing :-)

* Look out: when Ford announces the Maximum Security Alert to all
SHADO stations one can see a close-up of Straker which was used in
"Identified" first. You see, not only FX scenes were re-used in other
eps.

* Okay, Maximum Security Alert. But why are the Mobiles operational?
That's of no use since nobody knows where they should be
stationed. Same goes to the Interceptors: why are they lifting off -
without a known mark? After all Space is a too large sphere for this
kind of action. Yes, I know the answer: it's for the action and
it looks dramatic ;-)

* In this episode the UFO is at least more than two days in Earth
atmosphere - without exploding. So what?

* The chasing of Roper by the UFO is well done. I like it, I like it!
8-))

* Dawson was prepared by the Aliens with an electronic probe; the
Aliens refine their methods to take possession of Earthmen in the
episode The Psychobombs.

* The whole business with this flight path is a little bit to thin
for my taste. Is it really so complicated to find out what's the
flight path for? And do the Aliens really need this kind of
information? Anyone?

* And then this "One-man-on-a-suicide mission": what's so suicide
on this mission? Why not sending out four or more men armed with
rocket launchers to start a cross-fire at the UFO? Why only one man?
(And why the weakest man at this moment?)
And why - for God's sake - must Roper go the whole long way
ON FOOT??? Instead using a Moonmobile??? Oh, just forget it.... :-/

* Straker is a really tough guy in this ep. "Maybe he never need to
know..." which implicates that Straker doesn't expect the
comeback of Roper from this mission... Nice boss <shudder>

* Isn't Roper interested to speak to his wife after the UFO has
attacked him? After all he must recognise that some things went wrong
and therefore his wife could be in danger too... Okay, he said on
Moonbase that he couldn't call her, but sorry: if this were MY
wife I would move Heaven and Hell to speak to my beloved one!
Especially when I have to go on a "suicide mission".

* Gay Ellis tells Roper that "a Moonhopper is on it's way.
It'll be with you in minutes." In minutes? When the Moonmobile
needs MINUTES to reach the place, then how much time has Roper needed
to reach it - going ON FOOT! SHADO treats their personal not very
kindly. :-/

That's all for this time :-)

More great comments, Christian!

In this case, I think that this scene was originally filmed for FLIGHT
PATH, and then later inserted into IDENTIFIED. The original scripts for
both episodes are on my website, and you'll see that this scene is
scripted for FLIGHT PATH, but not IDENTIFIED!

Me too! :-)

I never really cared for this ep myself, although the car crash scene is
impressive - with no way for Roper to survive, though ...

Errrrrrr, yeah, sure ... <blink>

Must have been watching him <looking spooked>

I know I have researched this bit - the license plate number, I mean,
but I don't remember what I found. <sigh>

LOL! It is weird that Straker does the interrogation via video - only
reason I can come with is he must not want to bother leaving his office.
Tiger says, "He's a lazy SOB, isn't he?" ;-)

Really?

Didn't they know where the UFOs where coming in at? <ponder> OKay, I was
only half watching, never mind ....

It was under water, wasn't it?

Except there was no way for Roper to survive that crash! The car went
into the air, flipped over and crashed upside down. The gullwinged dorrs
may have flung open when the car was in the air and Roper could have
fallen out, but he would have fallen out right OVER the flaming station
- he'd of been toasted.

LOL! True ..... And same question - the aliens are always trying to kill
Straker (look at the lengths they went to in Kill Straker), so why
didn't they have Dawson (was that his name? - shows how much attention I
paid <sigh>) kill Straker? Same with that guy in Psychobombs who flung
Straker across the car like a rag doll - could have just killed him
.......

YES! THANK YOU! My thoughts exactly - like the aliens are too stupid to
figure it out by themselves. Which, actually, they MUSt have figured it
out, since they knew Roper had given them the wrong coordinates!

<nod nod nod nodnodnodnod> RIGHT!

Roper's wife was a wienie, though, wasn't she? Why just stand there and
let the wounded guy get his gun and shoot her? She could have kicked the
gun out of his reach, run into the bed room and locked the door, run out
the door, for crying out loud! Sniffling wienie <hmph>

He may have known ...

LOL! I thought Roper stepped out the door and was right there at the
rock - I don't know why he couldn't just walk back in!
