At the Fanderson convention. FAB Handbook 2 was handed out.
On its page 14, Ed Bishop is quoted as saying that plans for him and an Australian production company to make UFO 2, are still on. Does anyone know anything about this? At the convention I saw a Distruggete Base Luna game for sale. It was priced at 250 UK pounds, so I left it. Its name is Italian for "Destroy Moonbase". (Note spelling: not "Distrugette".) I also saw for sale an Italian videotape of a UFO episode called "Distruggete Base Luna" . I did not buy it, as I can't understand spoken Italian; but I can struggle with written Italian more or less. Its cover included a summary of its story in Italian: "In a interval in SHADO operations, Straker's little son is seriously ill due to a serious accident. Straker calls a SHADO air transport to get medicine to him. Meanwhile a mass attack of UFO's causes a red alert.". If this summary and the title are accurate, the eposode starts like "The Responsibility Seat" and later is different. What happened here? Is it a paste-together of parts of different episodes with parts of the soundtrack changed? I saw complete Supercar and Fireball XL-5 and Joe 90 episodes for the first time. It also showed the start of a Fireball XL-5 episode which had been partly colorized. There were plenty of costumes in the disco there Saturday evening, but not all Gerry Anderson, e.g.: Capt.Scarlet, a Stingray uniform, a Jawa, Princess Leia, a Star Trek uniform, two as Arthur Dent, some sort of alien from Space 1999. |

Both the German and the Australian efforts to make a UFO 2 are dead. There are no current plans that I know of for making a "UFO 2". >I also saw for sale an Italian videotape of a UFO episode called >"Distruggete Base Luna". >Its cover included a summary of its story in Italian: "In a interval >in SHADO operations, Straker's little son is seriously ill due to a >serious accident. I was under the impression that this movie was a compilation of the episodes CONFETTI CHECK A-OK, A QUESTION OF PRIORITIES, and FLIGHT PATH. But there was no "mass attack of UFO's" in any of these episodes... >It also showed the start of a Fireball XL-5 episode >which had been partly colorized. Oh great... first we had "turbocharged" Thunderbirds, next we have "surround sound" Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, and UFO, and next is "colorized" Fireball XL5? Can't these video companies just leave the original episodes ALONE?!! Marc (not anywhere near midnight here... but that final X-Files episode is coming up soon) |

I remember them talking about the colourised ep of Fireball at the last Fanderson con, and saying it would be cheaper to refilm the episodes! As for interviews, I'm afraid I missed them all, queueing to meet the people! _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com |

It was very noticeable this time that AV technology has moved on rapidly since this was done and the colourising looked a bit dated. There is no intention to colourise the entire series. The theme for the disco was 70s and 80s which was why there were people there in costumes from Star trek, Star Wars, MASH etc. I found the Captain Scarlet costumes more strange since the series was made in the 60s. :-) Katie [hidden email] www.graham-bleathman.co.uk |
