Favorite SHADO Hardware????

So how about everyone's fave piece of SHADO hardware? Mine has always
been Skydiver. The best shots of this I think can be seen in THE
PSYCHOBOMBS. Anyone else????

I was always kind of partial to the moon transport ships (even if they do
look like fish-heads on the front. Love it when they show them
docking/departing the aircraft in the atmosphere!) Probably because of the
"Conflict" episode. That one had some good Straker/Henderson moments in it
too. "You've gone TOO far this time Straker!" "Ah yes - Henderson!" Good
stuff!

Thunderbird 2, anyone?! - It even has a massive "2" emblazoned on the

You never know, I might just make a small mpeg movie, replacing the
UFO incidental music with a touch of the TB equivalent.. :)

BTW, that (audio) music clip of Ed. Bishop performing on the track
"Chiki-Chiki" for the group "Baby Ford" that Christian sent me should
be appearing soon (maybe tonight), now I've got my home systems back
in order. A good chance to try egroups file download facilities.

Why didn't they design multi-stage spacecraft in the real world where every
stage has wings and flies at an angle? It seems the most sensible and
fuel-economical way to do it, and so Gerry Anderson likely thought. The early
experiments with a big plane carrying an X-100 up were a start at it, even if
the X-100 was far more like a big air-to-ground missile with a cockpit than
like any sort of normal aeroplane. Balancing on a jetblast like the Apollos
did is absurdly wasteful in fuel, particularly since it could not take off at
missile speed but had to keep its G down to what its crew could tolerate.

I know, and I've seen a model of it at Jodrellbank (near Chelford in Cheshire
in England). But it wasn't multi-stage as far as I know.

My favourite was, is, and will always be SID. which is why my computer is
called SID 007 (James Bond being one of my favourite characters, AND my
present computer being the seventh computer I owned)
Maybe it's SID's voice that got to me (who did that voice, BTW?) or its
design. Which reminds me - Paul, how are you doing with your SID
animations? Did I miss one or is the last animation you did the one from
October 99?

My favourite hardware? Hard to say... (no pun intended)
Because I like the design of Skydiver, of Straker's car, the
Moonmobiles and the Moonbase. And of course SID. And not to forget
the Mobiles. And the UFO (but that's not a SHADO hardware :-) The
airplane which can verticaly lift-off in "Ordeal" is great!
