Hi everyone,
I am new to the SHADO group and have just today received my full set of UFO on DVD (but haven't watched it yet!). I was born in 1964 and can therefore remember the show from my childhood with very fond memories. I am looking forward to the shows and will probably just view them sequentially - but would be interested to know what other people consider their favourite/least favourite episodes and why. I tend to prefer episodes in all my 1960s/early 70s favourites (The Champions, R&H deceased, Avengers, Persuaders, Dept S) which are not so studio bound but have some location shooting. Which of the UFO episodes best meet this criterion please? Regards. Tanner. |
BEST - Timelash & Mindbender (Timelash maybe nudges
out Mindbender only because I remembered so distinctly Straker shooting the UFO with the rocket launcher after 30 years) WORST - Confetti Check A-OK ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software http://sitebuilder.yahoo.com |

Hi Tanner (and many thanks for the off-list mail re: Where Eagles Dare by the way), the episode which springs to mind is The Long Sleep, one you won't be seeing for a while if you intend to view the episodes in sequence. There's some lovely sepia-toned 'backflash' footage of Piccadilly Circus in 1970, but much of the episode is set on a farmhouse and in the English countryside. Having said that, it's not one of the better episodes, but it's certainly one of the more interesting. Cheers James |

My favorite "outside located" episode is "The Long Sleep",where Catherine
Ross awakes after 10 years in a coma, seeing images of a bomb ,burning on a slow fuse, and a friend falling to his death, and being knocked over by Ed Strakers car. It is quite an entertaining episode, with lots of action in it! you'll have to watch it for yourself - enough said!! Regards.. Best episode by far.......Question of
Priorities....where john straker, ed strakers young son, dies because it was more important to use Shado resources to save the world, than to get medicine to his son in time. Amazing episode. You basically never see a sad completely non happy ending to any series episode, this was amazing. I was stunned. |

I found this to be the worst episode, for many reasons, not the least of which, it seems to be a last desperate attempt to squeeze an episode together before the cast and crew breaks up at the end of series production. Of all the eps, it has the least "feel" of UFO. IMHO, of course Dave H. |

That's one of the things I like about UFO, is that it frequently has tragic and unhappy endings... Dave H. |

Yes, giving recommendations for favorite episodes is a bit difficult, as everyone here has (sometimes radically) different opinions. For example, I liked A CAT WITH TEN LIVES, but it seems that several people on this list hate it. Meanwhile, I thought ORDEAL was pretty awful, many on this list like it. That said, my favorites episodes are CONFLICT, A QUESTION OF PRIORITIES, KILL STRAKER, SUB-SMASH, A CAT WITH TEN LIVES, DESTRUCTION, TIMELASH, MINDBENDER, and THE LONG SLEEP. I've given letter grades to all the episodes on my UFO Series Guide (http://ufoseries.com/guide/episode.html), but that's just my personal opinion, and I've seen many who disagree with it. Marc |

Your comment is lacking in couth. CLEARLY I have
watched the episodes or I wouldnt and couldnt have commented. The answer to your question is self evident. If you read what I stated, I said ". You basically never see a sad completely non happy ending to any series episode, this was amazing." Perhaps I should point out the keywords,ANY SERIES. Which implies NON Gerry Anderson related shows as well. . --- davrecon <[hidden email]> wrote: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: ". My favorite episodes would be "Timelash," "Reflections in the Water,"
and "Mindbender," probably because Straker gets to spend a lot of time away from his desk! "Sub Smash" is my least favorite, because of some plausibility problems with the plot. "Sound of Silence" has a lot of location shooting. Most of "Timelash" takes place on the studio backlot.
