From UFO WITH LOVE

James-Yeah,great movie that was,and Vladek makes it all the more
better! I can't help but think he was really a bit p.o.'ed when he
gets that message to go to SPECTRE HQ and he has to lose that chess
game that he's obviously winning! And even his opponent is startled
that he makes such a blunderous move! Ha! I would've kept on playing!
Probably would've gotten shot later on too!

Hi Jim,

Actually in the film - he conveniently makes a brilliant move to get
checkmate there and then, and WINS! However, in the original novel,
he does indeed keep on playing! He ignores the 'you are required
immediately' note for a while until he can win, and later explains to
his superiors (SMERSH, not SPECTRE as in the film) that it would
have looked too suspicious to have thrown the game away.

Oops .. bit off topic :/
